Formula 1 battle

For the first time in its history, 4 drivers will enter the final round of the F1 World Championship with a chance to win the world title.

For the first time in its history, four drivers will enter the final round of the F1 World Championship with a chance to win the world title.

To take place in Abu Dhabi this weekend, Australia’s Mark Webber is one of the four, after coming second in Brazil.

The others are German Sebastian Vettel, who won the Brazilian Grand Prix, two-time champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso and Briton Lewis Hamilton.

ONE HD will broadcast both the qualifying round and the final round Live and Exclusive on Saturday, November 13 at 11.50pm AEDT and Sunday, November 14 @ 11.55pm AEDT respectively.

Also on Sunday, November 14 ONE HD will broadcast the documentary, Mark Webber: You Can’t Stop What’s Comin’, in which he discusses the highs and lows, controversy and drama from his F1 title chase. F1 legends Sir Jack Brabham and Alan Jones also contribute, as does Sebastian Vettel.

ONE’s commentator Greg Rust and F1 correspondent James Allen will be on ground in Abu Dhabi.

ROUND 19: ABU DHABI
Saturday, Nov 13 @ 11.50pm AEDT – F1 Qualifying LIVE and EXCLUSIVE.
Sunday, Nov 14 @ 10.30pm AEDT – Mark Webber: You Can’t Stop What’s Comin’.
Sunday, Nov 14 @11.00pm AEDT – F1 Pre-Race Show followed by Abu Dhabi Final Round LIVE and EXCLUSIVE.
*Round 19: Abu Dhabi will also air on TEN on Sunday, Nov 14 at 11.55pm.

WHAT DOES WEBBER NEED TO CLAIM THE F1 TITLE?
*Webber wins the F1 season’s final race in Abu Dhabi this Sunday (a win is worth 25 points)
*Fernando Alonso can finish no better than third if Webber is to claim the title.
*Should Alonso fail to finish and Vettel is lower than 2nd, Webber will only need to finish fifth to claim enough points for overall victory.
*Hamilton could win (only on 222 points) but it would require a near-miraculous set of results in the final race.

  1. Why cant ten show the rugby live on one then replay it on ten as they seem to be able to do this tonight with F1? Last night, again in Perth they put the rugby on 1:30am same as the East Coast. Your a pack of idoits ten as we have had to put up with Nascar replays when the Wallabies are on!

  2. It’s been a great season. I haven’t yelled at the TV so much in ages. If Ferrari can’t win then of course I hope Webber does. Sebastien Vettel needs to calm down. He has gone from a likeable talented boy last year to a dangerous egomaniac this year. I can’t wait till next year. I hope there will still be live telecasting.

  3. Its quite surprising that they haven’t got a motorsport panel show considering they have one for AFL, golf and basketball, and that F1 is the highest rating exclusive sport to One.

  4. What a great season. This weekends race will be the most intersting race in years regardless of the result.

Well done to Ch10/ One HD, after years of neglect on Channel 9 they are really giving F1 the respect it deserves as the picacle of world motor sport.

  5. @Craig – I agree. I think it’s fairly clear from what he said in the post-Brazil conference that Vettel has had a sit-down with management and had the situation spelt out to him. His overly aggressive behaviour mid-season has cost both him and Webber points.

I think he’ll go for it at the start and hope that Alonso fails/struggles but, if Alonso is fifth or better toward the end of the race and Webber can still win, I think he will “develop an issue”. I just hope it’s not as blatant as what Ferrari pulled.

  6. @MJ – the points is very complicated but basically if Vettel winds then Alonso only needs finish 4th or better to take out the WDC. If Webber wins then Alonso needs 2nd. This is why most people think Vettel needs to play ball and help Webber and his team to get the WDC by running interference and stop Alonso from getting 2nd.

I want Webber to win of his own accord but this is a team sport so would Vettel needs to ask him self would he rather see Alonso or Webber crowned WDC 2010?

  7. From what I can recall, if Alonso finishes first or 2nd the Spaniard is champion for a 3rd time. Webber needs to win and hope Fernando doesn’t finish on the podium, Vettel needs to beat Webber by about 2 places and Alonso by 4. Hamilton needs Alonso to not score, Webber to finish below 6th and Vettel to finish outside the top 3.

  8. Should be a great end to the series no matter who wins. Of course, it would be fantastic for Webs to finally get up after a career of second- and third-rate teams.

  9. Phoenix727, when you mentioned the Minardi days, it brought back memories of Webber’s Steven Bradbury act in the AGP and coming 5th. Perhaps a repeat this weekend? 😉 If the other 4 go out, he can stick his arm out, whack on a CD, and cruise home to the championship. He’s supposedly the least marginal on his engine. Starts have always been his weakness, so if he can just get a good start…

  10. Haven’t enjoyed F1 up here in Darwin.. ONEHD keep showing it delayed, qualify and race, by 30-40 minutes.. is there a reason for this?? Its not fund when your stll watching it getting sms and calls from friends telling you who won!

  11. Go Webber i have been a fan since i was born and i am 14 now cause my dad goes for you and always has so i had grown up loving i heart u i no u can win i am going to be just like you i will be still happy if u dont win championship i will be proud but realy want u to
Go Webber I love you and Formula 1
    XXX

  12. I can’t wait for Alonso to take the title. Though if he doesn’t take it I hope it’s Webber. If Alonso finishes first then even if he let Massa win that race it wouldn’t matter.

The Ferrari bashing has been non-stop this season. If it wasn’t for them, F1 wouldn’t even be taken seriously.

It has been a great year with excellent coverage by ONE. Though the BBC commentating leaves a lot to be desired sometimes. I’m ecstatic that the seasons are getting longer and longer. India next year. Russia in 2014. Rome GP possibly for 2012.

I hope Williams continues to get better. The sport needs more competitive teams.

  13. Been a great season, but after Bahrain the season opener, I thought it would be a follow the leader season. Melbourne was altered by the rain and so was Malaysia. But what has happened has been a great season!

If Alonso wins, the season will be tainted because of the team orders!

  14. It’s been the most enthralling F1 season in years. I can’t recall the last time four drivers (mathematically) were still in contention for the title come the final round. I don’t care how bleary eyed I am come Monday morning, I won’t be missing a second of the race.

  15. As an F1 I’ve got give One a shout out this year for being very good about scheduling the races and actually having live races no matter what time, be it 2am or 5pm.

Let’s hope Vettel and Fernando get racy on the first corner and take each other out, leaving Mark for the win. Still, if it’s between Mark and Seb, sadly I think RBR politics might see our Aussie boy pushed aside.

  16. I’m a long time Mark fan, all the way back to the Minardi days, this is the most nervous wait for a race in all the time I’ve been watching. Go Webber!

  17. Thanks One for showing it live. WA will thankfully be able to see it at a reasonable hour. It it was 7 or 9, no doubt they would delay it by three hours!

  18. Just waiting for inevitable responses from the uneducated and the unwashed who will claim that ONE did not show this event live not realising that the live race actually starts at midnight…. sigh…

Go Webber.. infact, here’s hoping for a close and exciting race.

  19. This would normally a bit late for people to watch live, but hopefully being the decider will bring in some people who would normally not stay up this late. Showing the documentary at 10:30 is a smart move by Ten – try and hook some people in before bedtime. Webber, Webber, Webber, oi, oi, oi! 🙂

  20. Totally amped for this come Sunday- such a shame that its not on until midnight due to the time difference otherwise it could have drawn a huge audience for ONE
