Gyngell passes Nine’s top job to Jeff Browne

New PBL Media CEO David Gyngell appoints GTV boss Jeff Browne as the new Managing Director of the Nine Network.

David Gyngell has appointed Jeff Browne as Managing Director of the Nine Network, taking full responsibility for all of the operations of the network.

Browne, who is currently Managing Director of GTV9, will move to Sydney after overseeing the relocation of GTV9 from Richmond to Docklands.

David Gyngell was recently appointed CEO of PBL Media, parent company of Nine and other businesses including ACP Magazines.

There is no word on any replacement of Managing Director at GTV.

A statement from the network says Browne, “will continue an ongoing presence in Melbourne each week to pilot the continuing strength of GTV9 and to maintain vital contacts between all PBL Media businesses and key people and organisations in the Melbourne market.”

Gyngell said: “Appointing Jeff Browne is just about the simplest and most warranted decision I’ll ever make. I’ve come to know Jeff not only as a terrific operator but as an outstanding television executive. He brings enormous skill and capacity to this new role and I literally could not nominate anyone I would prefer to have guiding this great network right now.”

Browne added: “Nine is on the cusp of a wonderfully productive period in its already rich history. Having served the Network as Executive Director for the past four years, this step up provides an even greater opportunity to steer the business to a new level, based on the growing strength of our Nine schedule and brand, exciting prospects for our multi-channels and a reinvigorated commitment to News, Sport and Australian Drama.”

Meanwhile Brett Dickson has been appointed Chief Operating & Finance Officer of the Nine Network Australia reporting to Jeff Browne.
