Hush hush on Oprah filming

Are camera crews secretly filming footage for Oprah at historic Mt Mulligan cattle station, northwest of Cairns?

Rumours are flying that film crews northwest of Cairns are filming outback footage for Oprah Winfrey’s Aussie sojourn.

The Herald Sun reports that for two weeks, film crews working out of up to six helicopters have been capturing footage of life on historic Mt Mulligan cattle station.

One producer, said to be from Freehand Productions, said visitors were not allowed because of an “exclusivity deal” and filming was for an “unnamed television series to be shown on National Geographic”.

But one source says Winfrey’s production house, Harpo, had paid the team to obtain footage of the “real Australia” for the opening scenes of her show in Sydney next month.

Winfrey is known for her interest in the Outback, as seen in an episode celebrating the launch of the Baz Lurhman movie Australia, including with a complete cattle station ranch built for the episode.

Winfrey will shoot two episodes at the Sydney Opera House on December 14, with a third to feature a “secret outback location”.
