Minsk sings for Junior Eurovision

Junior Eurovision 2010 takes place today in Minsk, Belarus.

By the time you read this Junior Eurovision 2010 will probably be over in Minsk, Belarus. It gets underway at 6:15am AEDT.

This year’s contest features live performances of kids between 10 and 15 years from 14 different countries.

Competing are Lithuania, Moldova, The Netherlands, Serbia, Ukraine, Sweden, Russia, Latvia, Belgium, Armenia, Malta, Belarus, Georgia and F.Y.R. Macedonia. 2009 Eurovision winner and Belarusian Alexander Rybak will open the show.

Former Australia’s Got Talent finalist Bobby Andonov was a previous entrant in Junior Eurovision.

But there has been speculation that the 8th contest could well be the last after broadcaster support has been diminishing.

This week Executive Supervisor Svante Stockselius told a Press Conference, “We expect this contest to go on for many more years, this is not the last contest.”

SBS plans to screen the event over the Christmas period and will repeat it before next year’s main event in May.
