Red carpet rolls out for Queen Oprah

Oprah will be treated like a foreign dignitary during her visit to Sydney, with personal protection and police escort vehicles.

Oprah Winfrey is expected to arrive in Australia next week, ahead of her two episodes to be filmed on December 14th.

The US talk show host will be treated like a foreign dignitary during her visit to Sydney, with personal protection and police escort vehicles.

The Daily Telegraph reports she will be a “formal guest of government” – allowing her a government security detail and police escort vehicles.

A spokeswoman for Police Minister Michael Daley said Winfrey would be well looked after during her time in Sydney.

“The NSW Police Force and NSW Government agencies are working closely to ensure the visit and associated events take place without incident.

“While there is a range of security arrangements in place during the visit, there will be sufficient numbers of police to cover a range of contingencies.

“Police are also developing traffic and transport arrangements in conjunction with the RTA and transport agencies to minimise any disruptions.”

The rumours on Winfrey’s plans remain in overdrive, with speculation U2 could make an appearance and talk of a visit to either a cattle station, Uluru or the Great Barrier Reef.

Some audience members will also be taking interstate visits, including shopping in Melbourne.

TEN will air the two Aussie episodes in January.

Their US broadcast is said to be worth millions in promotion for Tourism Australia.

  1. As we Americans know that Oprah is not God like she thinks she is…she is a talk show host and that is it …so Australia please do not be sucked in by her well orchestrated reputation.

She is not as great as you think.

  2. This is sickening. Our Government and other agencies are falling all over themselves to help Oprah and the shows. Yet, we can’t house or feed 105,000 of our fellow Aussies, we treat our indigenous brethren as second class citizens and or get the telecommunications working in neighbourhoods of big cities let alone the outback.

In the name of an Aussie “star” – Shame, Australia, Shame.

  3. Sickening.

She’s a talk show host, a pretty good actor, and probably an ok person.

But, above all, she’s just an Entertainer – and all of this is just plain….sickening.
