Sunrise team farewell Adam Boland

Seven threw a farewell party for Sunrise producer Adam Boland on Saturday night.

Seven threw a farewell party for Sunrise producer Adam Boland on Saturday night, attended by stars and colleagues including David Koch, Melissa Doyle, Mark Beretta, Natalie Barr, James Tobin, Larry Emdur, Kylie Gillies, Andrew O’Keefe, Molly Meldrum and new Exec Producer Michael Pell.

Boland’s impact on morning television was reiterated throught speeches, as Larry Emdur acted as M.C.

When appointed as Producer of Sunrise in his early 20s, Boland championed a relaxed style of presentation between hosts “Kochie and Mel.” Under his direction the show added a news ticker, adopted a US-style “window” studio, introduced live concerts and added viewer friendly technology including email, Twitter and the first iPhone app for a commercial television show.

During his congratulations speech, Koch revealed the newsroom referred to Sunrise as “Scumrise” and were openly contemptuous of the “conversational” tone the show adopted.

He said he knew Sunrise was referred to as a cult, and he didn’t care, because the team which produced it truly was a “family”. In fact, he was proud to be “the embarrassing uncle”, he said.

“My boss is gay and bipolar, but he has succeeded despite that,” Koch said.

Boland also introduced Weekend Sunrise and The Morning Show.

All three are winning national ratings.

At the end of the month he will become a consultant to Seven after being persuaded to stay by Peter Meakin.

  1. @Benji. I think David Koch meant that if you have a mental illness that it is hard to hold down a high pressured job and it can be hard to find a job if youre openly gay. Prejudice still exists

  2. “Scumrise”. Now that’s out it may stick
I have to say sometimes it is just too light and fluffy. However Today is no better, especially with Karl.
