Trophy Room appoints team captains

Sleek Geek Adam Spencer and ABC sports presenter Amanda Shalala will captain the two teams on its new sports quiz show.

ABC TV has named Adam Spencer (Sleek Geeks) and ABC sports presenter Amanda Shalala to captain the two celebrity teams on its new sports quiz show, The Trophy Room.

The Spicks and Specks style quiz, to be hosted by Peter Helliar, begins in two weeks’ time with sports trivia parlour games and physical challenges.

Adam Spencer said, “I haven’t been this excited since that John Aloisi penalty against Uruguay which sent the Socceroos to the 2006 World Cup.

“I haven’t been this energised since I watched Garry Kasparov clinch his 1990 World Chess Championship over Anatoly Karpov.”

Of his opposing captain, Shalala, he said: “She’ll be a ferocious adversary – don’t let the melodic, gently lilting surname hypnotise you into falling for her charms – she’s an encyclopaedia of sporting knowledge – with attitude to match!”

Shalala added, “I can’t believe I’ve found a legitimate outlet to share the many random and useless sports factoids that fill my head.

“Now my friends no longer have to politely pretend they care when I tell them about the Wallabies’ historic 1984 grand slam winning team, or recount the entire history of the St George rugby league club – I can share it with Australia instead!”

The Trophy Room premieres 8:30pm Wednesday December 8th on ABC1.

  1. Wow some real positive comments so far.. I love my sport and will make an opinion about the presenters once the show commences. Good on ABC for making something fresh!

  2. Peter Hellier is quite frankly Rove’s D grade mate. And Rove is pushing C-. Unfunny with inflated egos. Amanda seems nice, but with two absolute dregs of ‘comedy’ starring alongside her, this is doomed to fail.

  3. I enjoy watching Amanda Shalala on News 24 as she has such an Aussie accent but one that sounds like she comes from a Greek or Middle Eastern background. Does anyone know her background?

  4. there are a few hosts in australia that any show the do, no matter how good it is, always fails.

they are peter helliar, jackie o, kylie sandilands, matt tilley, jo stanley

yet all these people can have successful radio careers.

    weird, isn’t it?
