Golden Globe nominees

Toni Collette is the sole Aussie up for a TV award in the Golden Globes, but Jacki Weaver's nomination is a triumph for a shining Aussie actress.

Toni Collette has again been nominated for a Golden Globe award for her performance in United States of Tara.

She is the sole Australian actor to be nominated in the television awards -however Geoffrey Rush, Nicole Kidman and Jacki Weaver have all been nominated in the film awards. Weaver’s nomination is an utter triumph for an actress who has been part of the Australian industry for decades and has appeared in an independent film.

Collette, who won in 2009, will be competing against Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laura Linney and Lea Michele.

In the Television awards newcomers include Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead, and The Big C.

They will join previous contenders Mad Men, Glee, House, Dexter, Modern Family, The Good Wife and 30 Rock.

The Pacific is also up for an award.

The awards will take place on January 16 from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, hosted by Ricky Gervais.

  1. How ironic! We find out that Laura Linney is nominated for a Golden Globe on the same day that Gem decides to pull The Big C. Seems every time I become attached to a program it disappears….. : (

  2. Why doesn’t the cast of community ever get many nominations they are all great. and I guess we should stop being surprised at Lost not being nominated despite being better than all of the ones that were.

  3. I agree with the ‘Breaking Bad’ comments. Hands down the most gripping, dramatic and brilliant show on T.V. at the moment. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are extraordinary (no Aaron Paul in the best supporting actor category makes me sick to the stomach!) Also great to see the underrated and underappreciated Katey Sagal get a nod for best actress in a Drama! She was great this season.

  4. Great to see The Walking Dead nominated for Best TV Drama. Great show.
No idea why Piper Perabo is nominated, the show’s not that great and there a far better actresses on tv.
Also good to see Scott Caan nominated, love Hawaii Five-O. But Chris Colfer?? He’s my least favourite on Glee.

  5. I wanted to see Ed O’Neill nominated. Laura Linney would seem the likely winner here unless Edie Falco repeats the Emmy win. Globes like to be fresh and new, but yet they nominate Hugh Laurie again!!!!! I’ve always thought their supporting acting awards for television are loopy – mixing in mini series and specials and series in category. Jane lynch will probably win, but as much as I would love to see Eric Stonestreet win – it will probably go a thespy like Strathairn

  6. You’d think for the third straight year Breaking Bad would have at least gotten one nomination for Best Drama. It’s the best drama on television and I have seen half of those shows on that list. Of course it’s just an opinion but watch the show and you’ll know why Breaking Bad at the very least deserves a nod for Best Drama.

  7. Why wasn’t The Office nominated!? It keeps getting better every season, how can a show about cancer be funny?

Steve Carrel better win this year, it’s prob why he left the show.. No recognition.

  8. How wonderful that The Big C and it’s leading lady Laura Linney have been nominated for an Emmy!! I am not at all surprised as it is just the best show on television!!!! Congratulations to all involved!!!!
