Nine will air a game show clone of Minute to Win It from the UK, The Cube from ITV.
The show sees contestants entering a huge cube to play “simple” challenges that increase in difficulty as the money stakes increase. The show actually preceded Minute to Win It.
A US pilot was also filmed, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
The Cube offers contestants the chance to win a top prize of £250,000 by completing challenges from within a 4x4x4 meter cube. Tonight Taxi driver Dean Chase and air hostess Rhian Tippett enter The Cube. Hosted by Phillip Schofield.
The show will replace Celebrity Singing Bee from January 1st, which means not all episodes are likely to air.
It airs from 7:30pm Saturday January 1st.

I believe MTWI is the clone. Wouldn’t that be a first for Australia!
OMG – it’s not Shaun Micallef, it’s Phillip Schofield! I grew up with him presenting Children’s BBC. One of the original “nicest guys in TV”.
From that picture, I thought Shaun Micallef had another awesome New Year’s show lined up… I can only dream.
So no slicing into meat-pieces and acid to the face a la the Canadian movie of the same name? *Disappointing*.
And isn’t that a pic of Shaun Micallef looking very grumpy?
You can’t really cal it a Minute To Win It clone then.
the american version hosted by NPH? Say it ain’t so!
In any case, sounds boring an uninspiring.I give it 2 weeks
Any guesses as to how many weeks The Cube will last before Nine yanks it? (assuming they even air one ep before yanking it)
Finally! This is a truly tense game show – can’t wait for a proper Australian series to hopefully come in 2011.
Oops, my bad, the first line just threw me off.
I think it should be noted the the original version of the Cube was before Minute to Win. Minute to Win it started on NBC in 2010, where as the Cube started on ITV in 2009. This makes Minute the clone.
Ahem…..”The show actually preceded Minute to Win It.”
The Cube is the original, not the clone.
Which was noted in the story….
I wish Nine should make an Aussie Version of the Cube and Garry Lyon could be the host of it.
Really? I was really enjoying having the Singing Bee back on, even if the eps were dated! Disappointing again Nine, which is just about what I expect.
