But what happened to these shows?
AFP, The Marriage Ref and the David Hicks telemovie X-RAY were all promised for 2010 -so what happened?

Every year there’s a pile of shows that were promised to viewers, but never delivered.
This year they include AFP (Australian Federal Police), The Marriage Ref and the David Hicks telemovie X-RAY.
In the case of some shows, they may not have yet aired in the US. Others were packed in by their own creative team.
Nine always tops this list, because it has a habit of promising shows that get delayed or just never go before the cameras. This year at its programme launch it was leaner and meaner -hopefully avoiding topping this list next year. Several including AFP, Big and Panic at Rock Island will air in 2011.
Seven announced both the US and a local version of Seinfeld’s The Marriage Ref for 2010 -the US version is now tipped to air in 2011. Unlike Nine, Seven didn’t release much detail on 2010 content at the top of the year.
TEN kept almost entirely to its word, save for the end of year rethink by Rove McManus.
The ABC was careful in its wording of new shows, noting that all of these shows would either air in 2010 or go into production. X-RAY, the David Hicks telemovie is now off the boil after Hicks’ father lost interest in the project.
SBS continues to stall over a decision on Swift and Shift Couriers.
Here is the list as best I could ascertain. If you have any corrections, or additions, let me know!

Jo Frost’s Don’t Blame The Parents for 9. Don’t know what it was but I remember it being advertised.
Also, Mr Sunshine and Episodes can’t really count because they don’t even go to air until 2011 anyway. I guess it’s 9’s error for “promising” something that they know won’t make it to screens.
9 also said they would air justified on go! and showed a heap of ads for it in september/october
@ craig yes Ch 10 not doing themselves any favors by hiding Dexter away (Ditto for Nurse Jacki). It’s the type of show that if you are into it you really don’t want to wait to see what happens next, certainly not two years wait anyway! I have just seen end of series 5 and i think Ch 10 are yet to show series 4 or maybe it’s 3. I know they cannot air it too soon after airing in US because it’s on foxtel but 2 years wait is a bit excessive!
I have given up with ch 9 long ago, too many changes never know whats going on. The only thing i can rely on for ch 9 is a total overload of 2.5 men, which i am proud to say never ever watched and never ever will.
Wow! That’s a huge list for 9. Maybe they made the promise to show these while meeting for coffee at a McCafe? 😉
jimbob, David is right, if you read the comments here regularly you’ll know a lot of people get p’ed off at 9 changing things all the time and not doing what they said they would (like showing cricket in HD on Gem).
lol, this reminds of the old TVTonight ‘Missing in Action’ page
Swift and Shift is now 18 months old…it was made in mid-2009.
I am guessing mid-2011 is the cut off point.
No show sits on the shelf for more than 2 years.
By mid-2011 or never!
Watched the Marriage Ref a couple times while I was in the States earlier in the year…. it’s rubbish.
Do we know what happened with Whose Line? Was it going to be Australian? Kind of sad now knowing it might not happen!
Bit hard for Nine to show Harry’s Law, Episodes and Mr Sunshine if they haven’t premiered in the US yet.
Besides Episodes there’s not a thing there i want to watch anyway so i think they did us a favour.
Nine: Still The Joke Network.
While it was due to air in 2011, ‘Don’t stop Believing’ on Ten was supposed to go into production in 2010. There was another SBS series that was produced but never saw the light of day called ‘TI Taxi’ filmed on Thursday Island.
Yes, its clear to see Ch 9 would rather have shown more 2 1/2 Men and Big Bang than something new…
I’m a telly head and even I don’t remember any of the shows mentioned in the article. Must of been as popular as a fart in a submarine
Judging by recent stories, David has a significant vendetta against 9
Jimbob: Including the recent stories on the wonderful 9 Farewell party and the stories on Nine News behind the scenes, 2011 slate, and feature interviews with Eddie McGuire, William McInnes etc? Or are we just skipping those ones because it suits your argument? Look at the life of the blog not a one week snapshot. They all get bricks and boquets at one point or another, but Nine’s amendments this week have been horrendous and I make no apology for telling readers what’s going on. I could suggest that judging by recent comments some readers have a significant vendetta too, but that’s for others to decide…
Pity we cannot sue them for false and misleading advertising 😉
This time last year weren’t ten saying Idol would be back?
Looking forward to watching Dexter on 11 in 2011. And Angry Kids and Outland on ABC.
I would have liked to have seen Undercovers and The Hard Times of RJ Berger on 9. Hopefully at least the latter will still be screened since a second season has been announced (whereas Undercovers has been cancelled).
Its probably a good thing nine hasn’t aired any of these shows. You watch a show for a week or 2, then it disappears, never to be seen or heard of again.
Channel 9 just replaced all of these with 2.5 men and Big Bang
In Nine’s defense both Episodes & Mr Sunshine have yet to air in the US but ITA why promise a show they knew would not air in 2010 and were clearly a mid season show in the US. Meaning an air date sometime early in 2011.
The Marriage Ref looks interesting and there is renewed interest now NBC picked up a 2nd season. But still Seven should be airing the first over the next few months, I can see them not airing the US one until after the local, so only God and the ch7 programmers know when that will happen. Also while on Seven I hate to harp but didn’t they promise to fate track the likes of Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy this year?
And yes why no new Dexter on TEN, how far are they behind the US and Showcase now?
Why am i not surprised here? Because this is channel Nine to a tee. They schedule shows then pull them never to be seen again. The programmer there i think has ADHD (not that this is a laughing matter as its a bad illness but…) Its a complete and utter joke. There isn’t a week gone by that Nine or GO! or Gem has a programming change and thats putting it lightly. No wonder we didn’t see anything because they’re a disgrace.
David, “promise” is a strong word that you always use in relation to this topic. Do the networks really “promise” anything?
What I don’t understand about Nine is that not only did they announce these shows at the beginning of the year but AFP, The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show and When I Grow Up have all appeared in advertisements on the station.
And those are only the Australian shows I remember seeing in their Coming Soon ads. $#*! My Dad Says seems to have been coming forever, as well. It feels more than a little mental.
Well Ten didn’t keep entirely to it’s word. There were a few such programs that they aired a couple of episodes of then got rid of.
