CEO David Gyngell reintroduces the Christmas hampers to Nine employees, previously a favourite gift of Kerry Packer.

Full marks to Nine Entertainment Co CEO David Gyngell for re-introducing the Christmas hampers to Nine employees.
The hampers became the stuff of legend under Kerry Packer, who ensured that every employee from station managers to the gatehouse guard received a whopping hamper, worth hundreds of dollars each.
But they were cut by James Packer in a bid to rein in costs.
Since being made CEO of the parent company, David Gyngell is certainly showing form.
Wonder if it’s a deal with Crisco?

@ Ann.
hasn’t saying vogue gone out of “vogue”?
@Ann, when does free food and grog go “out of vogue”? What a peculiar remark.
The hamper thing has gone out of vogue in the last decade of so
Enjoy it on the tram to docklands
Got one of the hampers once. Well…actually it was a big white polystyrene box with ribbon. Boutique goodies, some wine and some gorgeous little things to give to other people. Good to see it’s back as when it disappeared a few years ago there were some sullen faces at the empire.
What do you want Gary? A bottle of Veuve, a kilo of caviar and aGucci handbag for the wife, in addition to the ham and turkey, for every employee? Ingrate.
My brother used to get the hampers when working at 9 many years ago. it was all top of the range stuff. champane, the best ham etc… Did james learn anything from his father?
….another original idea from Gyngell and not even a modern twist – just the same as hey hey i suppose.
Gary, considering how many people he employed. And Packer didn’t stop at giving hampers to those who worked at ch 9. One of my uncles who worked on a farm Packer owned. Also received these hampers.
Hey Gary, I wouldn’t mind my company showing me so much love…
@Gary, so you probably received a Daryl Somers (the ham), an Eddie McGuire (the turkey), some cheap wine (any number of programming executives) and a little plum pudding (Shane Warne, to be sure) 🙂
@ johnTV…. well we better get u one then!!
I worked at GTV9 for a couple of years when the hampers were still being given. It was very generous of Kerry Packer, however they weren’t worth that much !! You got a ham, a turkey, a couple of bottles of cheap win and various condiments. There was a plum pudding so small that my niece once said ” Oh look, it’s a muffin ” lol
its just probably a basket of the all the shows they have not shown this year but promised to..
Actually, its probably just a Two and Half Men Box set – he would have got it from the programming department
