Hold that thought, George.

In Network promos George Negus starts a sentence at one location and finishes it at another.

I recently caught one of TEN’s new promos for its new-look TEN News line-up, but now that I have seen all their state based promos back to back, it’s just a little distracting…

“We’ll take the time to tell you not just what’s happening, but why,” George Negus promises.

Fair enough.

So can you tell us why you changed locations mid-sentence, George?

  1. Adam: I agree. Why should 10 let Bill McDonald do double duty? I’m predicting either a new reader in the 5pm chair, or a new reader in the 6:30 chair will be needed in Brisbane eventually, as Bill, (as he has a family to come home to), would want to choose which bulletin he wants.

  2. So Melbourne have a different set to the rest of the other Ten News sets in Australia? And why is that the Brisbane and Queensland hosts both look very similar and one of the Brisbane hosts with be doing the 6.30 news? And Im still to understand the difference between 5pm and 6.30 ones is going to be about Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane than NSW/Vic/Qld etc. ???

  3. @ James H – Ok, if you look closely at the end, at about 0:28 in the Sydney clip (might be slightly earlier or later in other ones), there’s a piece of scrolling text in the background behind George saying ‘The 6pm…’, rest of the caption being obscured. Behind the 6:30 presenter is a matching caption saying ‘Ten Evening News’ (also obscured in the Brisbane and Perth versions but not others). Evidently 6pm had a name change after the ad was filmed and they forgot/neglected to change the text in the end shot from ‘The 6pm [something]’ to ‘6pm With George Negus’.

  4. NT/Tas 10’s are joint venture digital stations. A third news service for Tasmania will never happen, as long as Win and SC own TDT.

But a second local commercial news service for NT is a must, and a opportunity which shouldn’t be passed up.
