Nine promising “big surprise”

What big announcement, to be made shortly, is Nine hinting at?

Maybe I am overreacting, but I thought this is something you guys could have a little fun with…

At the end of Nine’s 2011 launch tomorrow in Sydney, there could be something extra-special being unveiled.

Nine Managing Director Jeffrey Browne has personally told me in the last week -not once but twice- that there will be a “big surprise” announced at the end of the launch.

The impression I get is that it’s not just a new show to be revealed.

Hmmmmmm…..I don’t really see how it can be a new channel. So is the primary channel switching to HD? Is TCN going to move house? Is Charlie Sheen going to make a personal appearance and apologise for his indiscretions and relentless repeats (which quite frankly are also indiscretions)?

You guys are always great with theories, so over to you….

Update: The surprise is PBL Media group rebrands as Nine Entertainment Co.

  1. Just like 40 is the new 20, 2 is the new 1, and Nine are therefore reviving their “still the one” promos.
Apart from the cricket, Nine could close all three channels and I’d never know.

  2. I know what the big surprise is!! Adter 2nd thoughts Cops LAC is coming back next year…….(and the winner of the Optimism Award goes to……Channel Nine…….(lol!!)

  3. @ David Knox – what makes you think that the claim on the Network Seven facebook page to be false? I realise that they have crap all people liking the page but it says its the offical page and the person commenting seems to know what their talking about. I asked if the page is an official Network Seven page but havent received a reply as of yet.
@ Everyone – if big brother comes back to Australia I will be cheering!!!!

  4. What ever it is, it’ll still be the same old clowns. Nothing new i bet, just something re-branded as being new. Imo, Nine lost the plot long time ago.

  5. There is to be a draft for TV Channels and as SBS has first pick – they’ve taken Top Gear back forcing Nine to start a new “top gear” this time hosted by all the guys from the cricket commentary! Actually they are also starting a drama = with a cast of cricketers, and a children’s show – with cricketers. Oh and a talk show to rival the Circle – with cricketers!

  6. more shows for ed , bert ,
will no longer show cricket on nine.
has decided to make shows people will watch.
giving david knox his own entertainment tonight style show

  7. What I would love to happen (realistic):
    – Hey Hey in 2011
    – All WWoS broadcasts to be in HD on GEM no matter what
    – Live internet streaming of the Nine Network, perhaps an iPhone/iPad app

    And now unrealistic:
    – Programs to start on time
    – Try something new 7pm weeknights
    – Stay at Richmond. It’s old but it has charm.
    – Putting GEM on Foxtel including a downscaled SD version (even though all the shows are already pretty much black and white 4:3 anyways)
    – A new, good game show which isn’t Millionaire or some different version of it.

That’s all I can think of now!

  8. Ideas include

-Hey Hey returning full time on Saturdays with best of clip shows during weeks off
-Charlie Sheen coming to Australia in an attempt to be more popular than Oprah and to autograph 2 1/2 men dvds and women’s female parts.
    -Temptaion to return to weeknights
-Today to be hosted by David Koch and Melissa Doyle
    – A new tonight show to be called Eddie Everywhere hosted by Eddie McQuire
    – Midday to return with KAK hosting while Ellen moves to 9am and The View at 10am
    – Packed To The Rafters, Home and Away and Neighbours defect to 9
    – Cops LAC is picked up for season 2 with 22 episodes
    – Wimbledon not dumped after all
    – The shiny floor show will premiere in 2011
    – Still the one slogan to return

So many ideas but it will probably be something different 😛
