Nine promotes programmer Michael Healy

Michael Healy becomes Director of Television at Nine while Andrew Backwell assumes charge of Programming and Production.

Nine Programmer Michael Healy has been promoted to the newly established role of Director of Television, having responsibility for all aspects of Nine, GO! and GEM.

The move follows a recent reshuffle at Nine with Jeff Browne becoming Managing Director.

Browne said: “Michael is an outstanding executive having delivered very significant ratings growth in 2010 with the Network winning the advertiser preferred demographics of People 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. Michael has enormous skill and capacity, demonstrated over a long and sustained period with Nine, and the addition of our new channels creates a further opportunity to use his skill and experience to deliver further incremental growth across our broader schedule.”

Andrew Backwell will become Director of Nine Programming and Production, reporting to Healy and having responsibility for the Nine component of the schedule and all network production across each of Nine’s channels.

Michael Healy said: “I’m very pleased to formally recognise Andrew’s contribution to Nine’s programming success this year, and along with Les Sampson, I believe we have the right team to deliver even greater success in 2011.”

  1. @Ronnie, maybe it’d mean they have to have scripts where people do stuff besides run around with guns shouting a lot. That would mean intelligent dialogue.

  2. Any room in the Nine sked for a female led Aussie drama? Ten have Offspring, Seven have Rafters and W&L, ABC are doing Phyrne. Nine used to have McLeod’s, Halifax and Stingers (the 3 girls were the strength of that series). Why has Nine abandoned women? I just don’t get it at all.

  3. I think nine has the worst programming schedule that has ever been on TV! I have no idea how they win those demo’s, they basically air three shows!! Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and Top Gear. I am in all of those Demo’s and the only show I watch on 9 is Survivor. Judging from the blogs and messages I see on sites, 9 seems to be the most criticized over it’s pathetic programming. Maybe this is like it is in government departments and the worst people get promoted because it’s too hard to sack them.
