Kerry O’Brien last night hosted his final 7:30 Report. It ended 15 years of his role as both Host and Editor.
He began like any other episode, delving straight into the news of the day with a story on WikiLeaks and Julian Assange.
He finished with John Clarke and Bryan Dawe before some parting words.
“A lot has happened since, the tragedies and the triumphs, the big landmark moments and the little things that nonetheless brightened our lives,” O’Brien said on Thursday night.
“I’ve enjoyed your company and I hope you’ve enjoyed mine.
“The time has come to say good night.”
It was a classy ending.

It will be interesting to see how the 7.30 Report or 7.30 as it will be known rates inn 2011.
What an amazingly humble man! He is a loss to interviewing and journalism.
Agreed. Very classy and very humble.
Agreed, David. The lack of sentimentality and self-importance was indicative of the man’s class.
Tonight they are showing a ‘best of 7:30 report’ on ABC1 at 7:30pm, and ABC News 24 (7:30pm AEDT)
