  1. You will get for’s and against,s in any issue. What matters is that someone is doing something, either individually or collectively and that proven responsible bodies are seeing fair play. Street collectors here in UK get commission on their efforts and without them there is no guarantee, or hope even, that any money would be raised at all.
So far I have not heard of any effort by anyone here but , like us there are many families with relatives in Oz who would like to support. Perhaps Australia House over here can start something. I will contact them and hopefully there might be some way to help.

  2. We dont have much to offer but if any one is interested in purchasing any of our wild life images on our flicker site all the money can go to help those victims of the flood.we both with we could give more but thats all we have of value. flickr.com/photos/48991563@N06/ contact me on the the above link we really want to help.
Kind regards Bill and Mark Bell

  3. The awareness of money is amaiazing.
These parisites are at it agin money for this disaster money for that one mmmm…..
I have to ask what has happen to the$300+ million raised for the victorian fire victims there is some speculation that the oganisers are making great intrest from the banks. Sure they have handed out some not a great deal but lest we forget accountants and charitys cash appeals where is the money going auditers, advertisement, endorsment and the list goes on and on. So For all you giving charitable people out there go to these townships and give them the moral support they require dont give to these groups anymore of your hard cash to hold and deplete for thier own benfit.
    cheers from Melbourne

  4. Buckets to all the people with negative feedback who cares who hosts the show and what ratings it gets, Its all about Australians banding together digging out some spare coin and help to raise some much needed funds for these poor people who have lost everything. If you dont like it dont watch it go back to your little glass houses and hopefully when your in time of need others look negatively at your situation like you do to them. Well done to all the volunteers Army, SES, community groups etc for there hard work to try and salvage what they have out of this disaster of a situation. Chin up to all the families from Queensland and dont forget New South Wales who have been affected. Many people around the country thinking about you and also around the world dont let the Aussie battler spirit die we will band together and be strong.

  5. @Gary and Mr. Chandler: according to today’s Herald Sun, the appeal will be held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Piazza by Karl Stefanovic, Leila McKinnon and Eddie McGuire.

  6. of course karl and lisa will be the host. they are the new, lets just throw them on every show or special we have on the network . everyone loves them people

  7. Maybe Warnie with host it since he just lost his show.

I won’t be watching, yes it’s a disaster but I don’t need to be siting around all Sunday night being reminded of it.

  8. @ MJ

I think Anna Bligh has been quite generous, and remember the clean-up and repairs to infrastructure will cost the government billions too. It’s good that Australia can donate to help the victims, but it’s hard to feel sorry for people who aren’t insured, especially when they live in high risk areas. Why should those of us who pay insurance have to prop up those who don’t ?

  9. I know the people of Australia just by watching and donating on Sunday will be far more generous that Anna Bligh ever will be. (I’m not flooded under myself despite living near the river itself, but I do know people and businesses who have been affected)

  10. Terrible bushfires in 2009 and awful floods in 2011 – Australia can indeed be a very harsh landscape.

Congrats on Ch 9 for airing a special like this – it possibly may be all for ratings and glory, but it should raise much needed cash for families who have lost much.

  11. Good to see WA’s issues ignored for once 😐

Yet another appeal, which will barely help.

How much was donated for Victoria? Something like $1million per house burned down…

  12. I think it’s safe to assume that a lot of people are going to look at this and think that Nine is greedy. The ratings for their Bushfire appeal weren’t huge, but the average figure for the four and a half hours was enough to safely win Nine the night. But by watching how much coverage that the news programs have been devoting to this event, it proves that something devastating has truly taken place. It is going to take a long time for people to clean up from the floods and it won’t be possible without the support of the country. I am hoping that the broadcast will be somewhat like the bushfire appeal in 2009 (considering that I thought it was a very successful telecast and the fact that this new show has Australia Unites as a subtitle).

  13. Well done Channel Nine and thank you. These flood victims need all the help they can get and its good to see a TV network jumping on board. Thank You.
