Queensland floods: Friday amendments

Updated: Friday and Saturday amendments will be posted here.

This photo shows Brisbane at dawn in December. After so many devastating shots this week, it’s time to remember a shining city, and one that will rise again.

Today appears to be the last day of rolling coverage of the Queensland floods on TV.

If you are seeking ongoing coverage then Nine offers the most coverage on Free to Air. Updated: Continuing coverage also on 7TWO.

Once again, amendments will be updated as they are supplied.

This should be the last day of major amendments. TV Tonight trusts these amendments have been of benefit to readers across this week. Well done to all network crews who have worked hard to communicate this disaster to us all.

  1. I’m from SE QLD and I’ve just arrived in Sydney. It’s amazing the difference in people’s attitudes down here. At home, everyone has either been affected by the floods or knows someone who has, and we’re all emotionally affected by it. Down here, people feel bad for QLDers, but (quite rightly), life continues as normal, and it’s definitely not the topic on everyone’s lips. QLDers who still have their homes have been glued to their TV sets, so the blanket coverage has been almost cathartic in that it has helped people to cope. Nothing generates community spirit more than seeing your home town/city in crisis and your family, friends and neighbours in need of help. As far as the coverage itself is concerned, Nine won for me (and I never watch National Nine News – they kept me because they were the first to give us all of the important info when the crisis first started emerging). Seven had some great news bulletins, though. I understand people’s frustration at the blanket coverage, but there were plenty of other stations to watch and for QLDers, the coverage was definitely welcome.

  2. As if natural disasters, such as the horrendous floods in Queensland were not bad enough for people to have to deal with, stories are now emerging of ‘low life’ looters, stealing from the victims.

  3. Given that the Twenty20 Cricket is on at 7:30 in all markets, does this mean that Brisbane are not getting the Twenty20 Live? Do we really need another hour of rolling coverage from 6:30 to 7:30? I’m sure that at this point, the cricket would rate higher than flood coverage.

  4. i think they have over done it. just like 9/11. it’s mostly repeats of the same stuff they have shown during the day. for the first 2 days, i can understand them doing it. but now both networks should have just gone for the 1 hour news bulletin at 11 and 4:30 and than at 6. rolling coverage of the same stuff isn’t news

  5. I must say I have been watching Nine’s coverage of the flood crisis and have been very much impressed. There haven’t been that many ad breaks and all the faces presenting are national & senior QLD ones which are recognisable and of senior talent. Nine I think started this rolling coverage from the first day of this whole flood “crisis” before anyother FTA, and I think they should be congratulated. Well done to you David on your hard work too.

  6. Any news on whether ABC1 will continue feeding its news from ABC4 over the weekend? Or will this weekend’s ABC1 schedule be as originally advertised?

Have appreciated your updates through the week David – thanks for your hard work.

  7. Interesting to see that unlike the other channels, Ten is not coming in live to Queensland today.
Well done Seven, Nine and ABC!! Nice to be able to troll through the channels NSW and Queensland and not see a difference!

  8. Okay waht I don’t get is why GEM is also being used by Nine for coverage, is it for bragging rights about being in HD and what of the shows people want to watch that are not being shown on Nine (like Ellen and other) because of the coverage that would normally be on GEM.

Also here in QLD we are getting 2 different feeds of GEM. 90 appears to be live (from NSW I guess) but 80 appears to be an hour earlier so with DLS from QLD. What is happening David?
