Rove LA for FOX8

Rove LA will be a 'stripped-down' version of his old TEN show on FOX8.

Further to TV Tonight’s report last week that Rove McManus has signed a deal to host a new show from LA for Foxtel, it has reported today the series will be a ‘stripped-down’ version of his old TEN show on FOX8.

It has the working title of Rove LA.

“Obviously, being here we’re shooting for Hollywood movie stars to come on but I’m not going to shoot myself in the foot by saying show one we’re fighting over George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts,” he told the Sunday Telegraph.

“Ok, sure, that’s our hope, but I’m also excited about the idea of a Jon Stewart or a Stephen Colbert or a Michael C. Hall and those kinds of guys. And they suit that cable sensibility.”

The announcement makes good birthday news for the Gold Logie winner who celebrated his 36th birthday on Friday.

PS I live in Australia as well lol

    Love Mel xoxo

  2. I watched the first episode this week……what an embarassment to Australia. His guests looked equally as uncomfortable and Rove resorted to sex and vegemite. I don’t think Americans get his humor and to be honest, his style is starting to get a bit dated and juvenline!

  3. It’s a shame it’s going to be on foxtel. When I heard about this show I was quite excited but I guess I can’t watch it since there’s no chance we could get foxtel :/

  4. Good on him. The man is 36yrs old and a father. H e has worked in australia , got his gold statue for T.V.. done that, time to move on. Enjoy his life while he can. My daughter 23yrs is in lL.A. she loves it . Rove bring home the gold hollywood statue .All the best sue

  5. I have no problem with rove doing a stripped down version of his old Network TEN show. Television is very tough gig. Shows which are promising do not get picked up or are given a short run before being dumped because of lack or faith and low ratings. Rove tried it in the US and yes by TV standards failed but their are many people who try it in the states and fail but we dont really hear from them do we? I wish him the best of luck he is a talent and think back to where he started in community tv to now not a bad job.

  6. This whole “Live from LA” marketing thing really annoys me. It’s as if they’re suggesting that being in LA makes it more legitimate or that their mere geographic location automatically makes it better than anything in Australia. My annoyance is mainly at Andrew G’s radio show. His pompous personality coupled with some American co-host just really ramps up the elitism and condescension. Whether Rove’s show will be the same remains to be seen.

  7. Russell: What about the other Aussies who are over in LA doing shows for Aus? Andrew G and Kyle currently do it for their radio shows! My guess is doing it from LA would allow these types of shows to get stars on easier because thats where they live!!
It kinda makes sense to me.

  8. This is kinda sad. What is the appeal of a show that is a “stripped-down” version of it’s former self?

If you are bringing back a show – shouldn’t it be bigger better and new and improved, not “stripped-down” – who at Fox8 let that tid-bit get out?!

Also, Rove obviously wants to have his cake and eat it too. He decided he was done with Australian TV and wanted to take on the US market so left for LA. He’s now found there is no work for him there – his pilot with CBS fell through – so now he wants to stay in LA – but is now willing to work for the Aussie TV market again.

    It’s kinda ridiculous.
