Former Sixty Minutes producer Gerald Stone has retired from his position on the board of SBS.

Stone, who wrote the book Who Killed Channel Nine? has also previously been a Deputy Chairman.

A government appointment round has commenced to fill the vacancy as well as other upcoming vacancies on the ABC and SBS boards.

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, is calling for expressions of interest from individuals who have the necessary skills, qualifications and experience to contribute as non-executive directors on the ABC and SBS boards.

This appointment round will be conducted under the Australian Government’s merit-based appointments process.

“The merit-based system has resulted in the appointment of outstanding candidates to the boards of the ABC and SBS,” Senator Conroy said. “I encourage all Australians with the interest and ability to contribute to the governance of our national broadcasters to consider applying for a position as a non-executive director.”

  1. May I nominate The Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMG, retired judge of the High Court of Australia, for this important position.

He is one of a select few in Australia not tainted by crass commercialism.
