The set of Sunrise has been nominated alongside 5 American studio sets by US TV news website Newscast Studios as “Best Set of 2010.”
The set was designed by Jim Fenhagen from Production Design Group in New York City as part of a refresh by former Executive Producer Adam Boland.
Newscast Studios commended, “The clean, airy and minimalistic design is perfect for a morning program. The lighted shelving set into alcoves gives the studio a bit of a “homey” feel and also allows provides an opportunity for subtle decoration, especially in the sports area, where a ball and other equipment are displayed.”
But it also noted the two stand-up podiums or Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta, “make the talent look more like contestants on a game show than news presenters.”
Sunrise is competing with CNN Studio 7, Reelz, CCTV’s Beijing studio, the Orlando-based Golf Channel and KMAX-TV’s Good Day Sacramento.

I voted for CNN – the podiums really put me off Sunrise
Sunrise would want to win that, because they sure ain’t gonna win anything related to good journalism!
Why am I not surprised that an American News TV website nominated an American designed set.
steven guy, lol..
The overall set is nice in a bland, generic sort of way, but I hate the stand up podiums. Hate, hate, hate them!!
anybody notice that the screen shot Newscast used to show the Sunrise studio included the news ticker reading ‘Bin Laden Threatens USA in new audio tape’.
I doubt this was a coincidence!
Go Sunrise. I agree the window that shows people standing there watching is a big feature. Its also nice that Mel and Kochie acknowledge them and wave or go out and talk to them, unlike today who just sit inside there 4 walls not knowing whats going on outside.
Hope Sunrise wins, their set is way better then Today and their show is way better then Today
Hope Sunrise can get it. Mind you its got some competition. The CNN set looks great. Don’t like the Golf Channels Set. Its too blue.
If they would get Kochie off the show I might have a look…
Does “Today” still use the “Apartment”? Whenever I’ve glimpsed it all I see is desk and plasma.
i don’t like Sunrise, but it would be nice if we beat someone like CNN.
@ Craig, Today on Nine doesn’t have a set, they have a couple of oversized plasmas. That’s it.
What, Mel has a nice set……..
NBC Today that is what the Sunrise set is.
A total copy cat version.
Pathetic.
I haven’t watched Today on Nine is so long I can’t remember what their set is like… might need to check it out one morning.
Hope Sunrise can win!
They didn’t mention the biggest feature of the Sunrise set– the window looking out onto the street.
