Nine’s new take on This is Your Life will air next Monday at 8:30pm.

The new version is hosted by Eddie McGuire and takes place in front of a huge audience at Crown Casino. On this occasion Nine is even ‘fessing up on the unsuspecting subject: Deborra-Lee Furness.

This Is Your Life, Australia’s all-time favourite feelgood program, has had a makeover and returns in a revamped contemporary format, celebrating the life of actress, director and producer Deborra-Lee Furness.

It features appearances from her husband Hugh Jackman, Jerry Seinfeld, Sigrid Thornton, Nicole Kidman, Simone Buchanan, John Clarke, Peter Phelps, Kerry Armstrong and Tim Costello, all paying tribute to this very special Australian.

Together with performances from Kate Ceberano, Tom Burlinson and Colin Hay, it promises to be captivating viewing.

Host Eddie McGuire will surprise Deborra- Lee with heartfelt reunions, spontaneous revelations and stories from friends and family from around the world.

“This Is Your Life has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding hosting jobs I’ve ever had,” McGuire said.

“The warmth of the studio audience and the moving stories of our guests provide inspiration and lessons in never giving up, in a way that only television can.”

At 70 minutes, this pushes the replay of the Oscars to a 9:40pm start (it has a live broadcast beginning at midday).

This is Your Life is expected to appear as a series of specials this year.

  1. When I think of Deborah Lee Furness, I don’t think of her as Hugh Jackmans wife, I think of her as the excellent actress that I have seen in so many great Aussie series, mini-series, and movies, such as Corelli, Seachange, and Fire. It’s about time she was honoured in her own right, instead of walking two steps behind Hugh.

  2. It would be more contemporary if it was done like the UK’s “Piers Morgans Life Stories”, where they interview a celebrity for 1 hour and get them to talk about their life. The problem with TIYL has always been the friends who can’t be bothered to show up send video messages. This logo looks like its been done on microsoft word art

  3. Good Idea: Telling us who is on the show, that was one thing that bugged me about the former episodes, so I never bothered to watch it unless I channel flicked and found a decent guest.

Bad Ideas: Hideous set (based on photo), Shockingly bad child like logo, Eddie.

Can’t say I will bother watching, I’ll just wikipedia the guest that may interest me at some point.

  4. Two problems with this idea.
    1) Eddie Everywhere.
Virtually no one outside Melbourne likes this man, so why does he have to be on every Channel Nine program? And free-plugging his Casino to boot?
    2) Meaningful celebrities.
Basically the premise of this show is ok. It was pretty good in the ’80s and 90’s when they could actually review someone’s life in full, but then they ran out of old celebrities and starting doing a raft of people in their 20’s, which is just ridiculous! After this woman (of whom I’ve never heard) they’ll probably do some 12yo child actor who had a couple of lines in Underbelly 4.
Then we’ll start getting Nine personalities.
“This is your life, Karl Stefanovic”, with a series final of “This is your life Eddie McGuire”, hosted by Eddie McGuire.

  5. @Nathan & Sal – My thoughts too were “who?”. Had to Google her name. Mrs Hugh Jackman. Would think there are many more deserving and interesting than her. Thankfully “House” is on TEN or “4 Corners” may be of interest. Hardly the #1 Sunday night killer it used to be on 7.

  6. You’d all be surprised with Deborra’s contribution to our entertainment industry.

I think some of you are just hating on the show because it’s Nine.
If Seven were to bring it back with Mike Munro at the helm, some of you would be heralding them as innovators and leaders in their field. (which is hardly the case for any Networks at the moment)

I remember the days when we would judge a show and evaluate it’s performance only After we’d watch it.

  7. Not again
We have done this to death,so to speak
what bring on bert again next week?4th time proves we have run out on people to surprise.nothing would surprise me with nine now adays
Should be a great family reunion, mat will will need a day pass
Is there no other on air talent left to front these shows, maybe ben elton is looking for a new gig

  8. @Sal Haha thank you for my Monday afternoon laugh. Really just because you’ve never heard of Deborra-Lee Furness, doesn’t mean she’s not This is Your Life material. She is very well known and respected. Who would you rather some washed up ex-NRL or AFL?

  9. This is a great show.I could handle it if we had Ed Phillips or Charli Robinson or Amber Brown hosting the show but Eddie McGuire for 70 minutes no thanks

  10. Thanks David, now I know what time to avoid watching Nine.

This is a worse idea than bringing back Hey Hey full time… who’s making the programming decisions over there, the Ghost of Kerry Packer… actually no Kerry would make better decisions, like firing the actual head of programming.

  11. I always found this program pretty cheesy, although in the past there were some notable Australians who were lauded for their work in various areas. But the fact that Eddie’s hosting absolutely puts me off so I won’t be tuning in. He’s just completely lacking a sincerity gland.
