Cyclone Yasi: Wednesday amendments

Updated: Latest network amendments as a result of cyclone coverage.

Upgraded to Category 5 Cyclone Yasi looks set to unleash its terror on the people of North Queensland, and just as the floods and bushfires sent networks into overdrive in a bid to cover the event, so too will this looming disaster.

  1. Its over the top as a media circus event. They’re aren’t really telling us anything new. The ABC is pretty bad. I had more fun watching CNN during Gulf War 2 when I was living in the UK. I heard a dumb question asking what would happen when the backup power runs out with the Red Cross bloke, there is no power. Plus the web camera didn’t show a thing. Seven, reckoned they had a scoops with their wind reports with a reporter further down the coast.

All you need 2 know its windy, wet with no power and stay indoors. Why have second channels, with this thing flooded?

  2. Whoops! Spoke too soon. CH7 just stopped their coverage, as far as I am aware. Still, only three hours until they start up again with Sunrise… it’s impressive that they stuck with it all the way through.

It was important that they did, and stayed around for the landing of the eye – with continuous updates that people must not venture out into the calm.

    That could save lives.

    Where was channel 9?

  3. if this means less 7pm 2.5 men for now so be it.I amongst others are getting pretty tired to death of 9’s poor attempts to give us a decent 7pm offering

  4. Why dont they just put this stuff on the other channels? I

thought why they had ABC24 for late breaking news?

I live in Perth and am not really terriably that interested in it on the main TV channels. Apart from the cricket still on 3 hours delayed, the other commercial stations will make us sit through a delayed coverage of watching the same pictures on a constant loop.

  5. What I found disgusting was Today Tongight on Channel 7,they had a bloody countdown clock in the top right hand corner of the screen counting down the impact time of Cyclone Yasi hitting Queensland.
    Absolutely disgusting.
Channel 7 should bow there heads in shame & make an on air apology.
A really low act from a really sleazy network & a really sleazy show.

  6. Seven reporter FaceBook’d: “Coverage continues Live on Seven News until midnight then back at 4am tomorrow Live.” So when it hits, we’ll go to the World Wide Web.

  7. Here in Qld, Ch 7 coverage of cyclone yasi, will continue til midnight. Sunrise will be @ 4am Qld time. This means that :-

    – the return of HIMYM will resume til next thursday to make way for a double H&A ep; & new eps of C-M & CH will be on next week.

  8. For Seven & Nine, this cyclone will be treated like entertainment, not news. You can just hear their management jump-for-joy when Australians face mass death.

  9. Wed Primetime: Seven Brisbane has preempted Home And Away, My Kitchen Rules and presumably will take off first run Criminal Minds as well. Presume may well go into overnight mode at this rate.

  10. In Brisbane it seems Seven is abandoning all primetime shows, Home and Away wasn’t shown (Today Tonight was on after extended 6pm news) and MKR isn’t on at the moment (more rolling coverage). Is this just for us or was this the case in all markets? Nine and Ten still showing scheduled programming.

  11. My Kitchen Rules has been cancelled for the night, at least in QLD. I would expect a double episode on Monday night to combat Underbelly and to save more New Bones episodes.
