David Koch slammed for tweeting on Egypt’s “Peaceful overthrow.”

Twitter users are slamming Sunrise co-host David Koch after he tweeted about the Egyptian president’s speech this morning.

@kochie_online: “Historic day in Egypt as Facebook generation ousts Mubarak. He even acknowledged the voice of Youth in his decision. Peaceful overthrow.”

Today President Hosni Mubarak told the Egyptian people that he would delegate more authority to his vice president, Omar Suleiman, but he defiantly refused to resign his post.

‘Kochie’s’ tweet triggered a wave of corrections and insults:

“Peaceful overthrow? I guess you’re not watching the same stuff we are.”

“World media reports Mubarak’s refusal to step down immediately. @kochie_online reports historic day as FB gen oust him #Egypt #2deludedmen”

“You’ve been taking lessons from the Tony Abbott School of Never Admit You Screwed Up. Just admit you’re wrong!”

“Mubarak is refusing to resign, kochie. Please stop getting your news from Richard Wilkins”

“peaceful protest is not a Western creation. The Mid East is capable of liberating itself, just hasn’t been given the chance.”

15 mins later @kochie_online took to Twitter again to clarify: “People chill out. We took speech live. It is historic. He is stepping down. Will not contest September. My point is it’s driven by youth.”

And then: “The point of Egypt is the Facebook generation have forced change. No burning of US flags or waving of Korans. They want Western lifestyle.”

It wasn’t long until he resumed his daily gags. “What do you call a donkey with 3 legs? A wonky. What do you call a donkey with 3 legs and 1 eye? A winky-wonky.”

  1. @Denis, it doesn’t matter if 300 or 3000 in any region of the world it’s still a horrible thing, and to call it a “Peaceful overthrow” is just ignorant and plain stupid.

  2. Against the grain here and firmly agree with the Koch is an idiot theme, but realistically speaking a 300 death toll is as peaceful as it gets in this part of the world.
Thrusting our values upon a part of the world that has been at war with something since time began is just ignorant.

  3. I was watching ABC news breakfast where they had live coverage of the speech. Foolishly turned to Sunrise at 7.30 to get the news bulletin where they announced Mubarak is addressing the nation to announce he is stepping down. I was like, umm Sunrise are you watching the speech??

But hey, watching Sunrise last week down the bottom scroll of news they said Adelaide was gearing up for start of Tour Down Under. It finished weeks before that.

  4. i was watching abc brekky as well. the only australian news source in fiji for me at the moment. they were being told mubarak was stepping down and when still anpinis . there. was a very long wait. i think everyone knew he wasn’t pulling the pin. kochie is still an idiot either way

  5. The pre-emptive emancipation claims can be somewhat forgiven, what is completely objectionable and so typical of the pig-headed Koch is the slap back at people who corrected him with “@kochie_online took to Twitter again to clarify: “People chill out. We took speech live. It is historic. He is stepping down. Will not contest September. My point is it’s driven by youth.” The man is an imbecile…Mubarak claiming/lieing that he will step down in september…is Not something to be happy about. And I can be certain if the CIA installed Suleiman gets into power there will be major purges and even greater crack down than under Mubarak..
