Another community television show has been picked up by one of the big guys.
ABC will air AFL football show Marngrook Footy Show which has aired for four years on Melbourne’s Channel 31, and on NITV. The show began as a radio show in 1997 due to the lack of indigenous football commentators, before joining on National Indigenous Television in 2007. It also airs on Foxtel, Aurora and Prime networks.
The show has an emphasis on Indigenous players, history and culture and includes information on the teams for each round of the AFL, match previews and live music.
Marngrook Footy Show’s rotating panel includes such names as Grant Hansen, Alan Thorpe, Gilbert McAdam, Ronnie Burns, Chris Johnson and Glenn James.
It also features female reporters Leila Gurruwiwi and Shelley Ware.
From Wednesday, March 23rd it will air at 7:30pm on ABC2 before moving to Thursday nights.
