  1. I am surprised that 7TWO keeps topping the digital channels. There is hardly any first run content, let alone much content in primetime from year 2000 onwards.

Eleven has a lot off good rateable shows in primetime, the problem is that the audience they are appealing to obtained the content by other means up to three years ago when they first aired in the US. This is why they cant reach the top digital channel.

ABC2 is a quiet performer, I watch more on that than I do with all the other digital channels.

  2. Dammit – should be the less sensational figures of 13.5% for Adelaide and 21.5% for Perth. I stand by my original point as these are more than 5 and 8 times the required swings in Sydney and 20 and 40 times that needed for Nine to lose Brisbane.

  3. @Kuttsywood – I’d say that those figures would be more of a concern for Nine. If a ere 2.5% of their existing audience for Sydney, 2.25% for Melbourne, and less than 0.5% for Brisbane switch to Seven, they will lose them all. However, Seven could sustain losses of 27% in Adelaide and a staggering 43% in Perth and still hold those two cities.

So much for Seven’s News being “propped up” by Perth and Adelaide, and Nine “sweeping” the other three capitals. Your emotive language doesn’t hide the fact that those figures would seem to indicate that Seven are unlikely to lose Perth or Adelaide in the foreseeable future, while Nine could very conceivably lose all 3 of the eastern capitals next week, especially Brisbane.

That’s not a prediction btw, and I also don’t actually care whether Seven or Nine News has the most viewers.

  4. @Bogues, there is some truth to what you say, but it cant inspire confidence that the time slot is down year on year, and its even starting to loose to the 2nd channel (and the same show it replaced)

  5. Last Tuesday’s episode of PTTR was desperately boring. It needs to lift its current storyline, methinks, as it is not particularly gripping at the moment. Kudos to them for the high ratings, but I’ve never really understood its runaway popularity, as the few times I’ve followed it for a short while, I’ve wound up being bored to death by it and I abandon it. It has never held my interest for more than 3-4 episodes at a time.

6pm with George Negus and the 6.30 bulletin on Ten have clearly flopped as they are not even in the Top 100. I know it is a long-term strategy to try and change deeply entrenched viewer habits re the 6-7pm timeslot, but if their ratings haven’t lifted by mid-year, Ten may have to bite the bullet on this, as the programs will become too costly to produce, particularly 6pm with its army of reporters around the gobe.

  6. wamdue: Yes, it is too early. It’s only three weeks old. It will take a while for viewing habits to change. To have 350k+ viewers change their source of 6pm within three weeks is a real achievement in my opinion.

  7. PTTR figs are a real achievement. 4seasons and it still on it’s highs that it was hitting in the first epidodes. With underbelly and most other dramas dropping off (imports and local) it’s a real survivor.
