Top Gear: Middle East special

Get ready for politically incorrect humour as Clarkson, Hammond and May re-enact the journey of the Three Wise Men.

As previously indicated, Nine begins new episodes of Top Gear next week beginning with the ‘Middle East’ special which aired in the UK in December.

Clarkson, Hammond and May re-enact the journey of the Three Wise Men by travelling from northern Iraq to a stable in Bethlehem. Get ready for more politically incorrect humour.

A new season has also commenced in the UK just over a week ago. In the lastest UK episode Clarkson also made mention of the Floods in Australia.

The new season, fast-tracked direct from the UK, will have Jeremy Clarkson, Richard “The Hamster” Hammond and James “Captain Slow” May getting up to more of the famous tricks that have made Top Gear a global television phenomenon. There’ll be new-model cars tested on the Top Gear track, amazing auto challenges, famous people in the Reasonably Priced Car segment – and a brand new Stig.

In episode one the boys are set a daunting challenge, driving from Iraq to Bethlehem in Israel, a trip the local authorities aren’t too happy about. As a condition of the challenge the boys have to buy and drive two-door convertible sports cars that cost less than $5000. But before even getting to the starting point, they take a wild flight in a dodgy-looking ex-Russian Army tank transporter, fully loaded with their budget sports cars, destination unknown.

Could this be the ultimate Top Gear challenge? It’s an awesome start to the season and a spectacular episode that takes the three hosts through some of the most dangerous spots on earth.

Irreverent, witty and unbiased, the Top Gear team push cars to the limit and beyond to find out if they are any good. If you want to know how big the boot is, look elsewhere. Full of outrageous stunts, incredible challenges and special features, Top Gear is self-deprecating and passionate. There are no boring statistics or conversations about camshafts and tyre pressures. Instead you get authoritative information, grand prix entertainment and loads of style.

It airs Tuesday, February 8, at 8.00pm on Nine.

  1. Wait a minute! Does that means Australia saw the second Ep of the New season which aired only nights ago in the UK a while back on NEIN?! The Ashes Ep? What what? David is this right? But we get the middle east one months later… Hrmmm….

  2. I’d think, that Clarkson/May has a big interest in the QLD situation, as they are due to visit Australia, for the Top Gear Live spectacular in a month’s time, and their first stop: Brisbane (then afterwards, Melbourne).

The BEC at Boondall (where the TGL Brisbane event is happening) was un-affected, as it is nowhere near the Brisbane River.

  3. But in the clip of what’s coming up they show the Middle East Special. But yes I agree it’s not that important in the scheme of things compared to other scripted shows (not that TG uses a scrip )

What I want to know is will this be edited down to 60 minutes to fit the planned 90 minute block they have set aside?

It will be interesting to see if they remove the controversial burqa incident from the Nine airing.

  4. It doesn’t really make a difference if they air the Middle East episode before the USA episode. If anything the USA episode is really the first episode of the season,as they show what’s coming up in the series,so airing the Christmas special before it makes sense.

  5. 6 week delay (for a Christmas show) is hardly fast tracking IMO but I guess for Nine…

But what I want to know is why are they airing it first when it was the 2nd new show for the series? I can only assume the US road trip special will be the following week? My other concern is the running time. The Middle East Special runs 75 minutes without ads, what will Nine do?
