Airdate: Kalgoorlie Cops

Crime & Investigation Network will feature "the biggest police beat on the planet" in a new 8 part series.

The Crime & Investigation Network will unleash the World Premiere of its new local factual series, Kalgoorlie Cops.

Set in WA on “the biggest police beat on the planet,” the 8 part series was created by John McAvoy of Eyeworks Australia (Missing Pieces, You Saved My Life, Gangs Of Oz).

A unique and quintessentially Australian production, Kalgoorlie Cops is a fast and furious 8 x 30 minute series that takes a no-holds-barred look at the work of the 217 uniformed police and detectives who control the world’s largest police beat, covering 1.3 million square kilometres.

Situated at the edge of the Nullarbor Plain in the West Australian outback with a population of 32,000 people, Kalgoorlie is a town like no other.

Sprouting from the gold rush of 1893, these days the town is flush with money, miners, hookers, crooks and bikers – meaning there’s never a dull moment for Kalgoorlie’s cops.

Laying claim to the biggest open cut Supermine pit in Australia producing over a billion dollars worth of gold a year, Kalgoorlie is also the birthplace of WA’s first brothel, has the highest per capita registration of hotted up Holden and Ford V8’s – and boasts a pub on virtually every corner.

From murders to drug trafficking, organised crime, theft, prostitution, domestic disputes and old-fashioned Friday night punch-ups, to searching for missing tourists and prospectors in the huge expanse of desert surrounding Kalgoorlie, this action-packed series takes a never-before-seen look at the workings of the biggest police beat in the world.

Each episode focuses on three major storylines, with cameras shadowing the hard-working Kalgoorlie cops around-the-clock as they deal with the vast array of crimes and misdemeanours that can occur on any given day.

Viewers will also be introduced to a core team of police officers during the series and will get to know and love the real people behind the uniforms – the men and women who put their lives on the line every day in Australia’s most notorious outback town.

It premieres Thursday, April 14 at 7.30pm AEST on Crime & Investigation.
