Airdate: Middle Of The World: Eddie Perfect

Talented performer Eddie Perfect joins forces with internationally-acclaimed UK musicians, the Brodsky Quartet for ABC1.

Still grumpy over the Tim Minchin audio debacle?

Offspring‘s Eddie Perfect will soon cheer you up.

Actor / singer / writer / composer / musician, Perfect will feature in an episode of Artscape on ABC1 next month.

In Middle Of The World Perfect joins forces with internationally acclaimed UK musicians, the Brodsky Quartet, to create Songs from the Middle.

The partnership is the brain child of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in order to provide its students with the opportunity to play outside the classical repertoire with some of the world’s finest musicians.

Perfect, who has built a successful career around performing satirical songs in shows such as Shane Warne the Musical, decided to write a cycle of songs as a homage to his childhood suburb of Mentone on Melbourne’s beachside.

“The Mentone idea was one I’d been kicking around for a little while in my head, a kind of excuse to make peace, in a musical way, with a suburb I’d trashed since leaving,” he says.

The UK based Brodsky Quartet is famous not only for its classical virtuosity, but for its genre busting collaborations with the likes of Bjork, Dave Brubeck and Elvis Costello. The group has never heard of Eddie Perfect, but embrace the Songs from the Middle project for its innovation, and the chance to mentor the ANAM musicians.

This is the first time Perfect has written for classical musicians and the Quartet will arrive just three days before the opening… Will it work and how will the audience react to this new work?

Artscape: Middle Of The World: Eddie Perfect airs 10:05pm Tuesday 12th April on ABC1.
