Airdate: The Egyptian Job

National Geographic will be screening a series of documentaries on ancient Egypt, including the World Premiere of The Egyptian Job.

If you’re into Egyptian artifacts (take note, Molly) you’ll want to be looking at National Geographic in April.

To mark the Tutankhamun And The Golden Age Of The Pharaohs exhibition, which opens in Melbourne next month, they will be screening a series of documentaries.

It includes the World Premiere of The Egyptian Job which looks at how ancient robbers broke into an ancient pyramid to steal the treasures of the great Pharaoh Amenemhat III.

The unparalleled beauty and splendour of Egypt’s Pharaonic dynasties is set to be restored on National Geographic Channel on Sundays in April, alongside the gritty realism of life in this harsh, ancient era. From edge-of-your-seat tomb break-ins to jaw-dropping archaeological finds and spine-tingling tales of lost cities rising from the sand, National Geographic Channel is screening a dazzling array of televisual treasures.

Return to the ancient world with The Egyptian Job on Sunday April 3 at 7:30pm AEST & NZST. This feature-length tale revolves not around kings and gods, but around shady men trying to make a fast buck, with all the action – and the soundtrack – of a modern thriller. A crack group of four experts, including international crime consultant Chris Mathers, come together in an attempt to solve one of the greatest crimes in antiquity. How did a band of villains manage to break into Hawara, the Fort Knox of Egyptian pyramids, to steal the treasures of the great Pharaoh Amenemhat III? Using criminal psychology, historical insights and mechanical genius, can they work out how ancient robbers broke into the most complex pyramid vault ever designed, to pull off one of the biggest heists in history?

In addition to these headlining premieres, explore the mysteries of one of the world’s most recognised sites in Ancient Megastructures: Great Pyramid; enter the dark, complex journey to the afterlife in Egypt Underworld; contemplate the riddle of the lion with a Pharaoh’s head in The Sphinx; and track down the missing treasures from the boy king’s tomb in Egypt: King Tut Uncovered.

Ancient Megastructures: Great Pyramid
Saturday April 2 at 5:30pm AEST & NZST
The Great Pyramid of Giza is four-and-half thousand years old. It is the only ancient Wonder of the World still standing. It was conceived as a resurrection machine for the enigmatic pharaoh Khufu in 2551 BC and completed over 20 years later, just before his death. To cut and move the two million stones needed to build it would involve the organisation of the entire Egyptian state.

  1. And probably all in glorious sub-standard definition, because Nat Geo won’t do the right thing and simulcast their channel in HD; rather they pick up a cheap regional feed from Hong Kong with a minute fraction of the programming.

  2. I swear, “Ancient Megastructures: Great Pyramid” must be the most played program on foxtel.

But yeah i’ll look out for The Egyptian Job.
