The world’s longest-running TV soap Coronation Street celebrated its 50th anniversary in December with a dramatic storyline disaster which rocked the lives of everyone in Weatherfield.
The show has racked up 7,500 episodes featuring 39 births, 114 deaths and 88 weddings.
In honour of the long achievement both the Queen and the British Prime Minister sent messages of congratulation to the show.
Now a special hour-long episode, The Road to Coronation Street, will air on UKTV.
It looks at the TV serial which no-one wanted to screen, and which went on to become one of the most enduring and well-loved British programmes of all time.
The Road to Coronation Street airs 7:30pm Monday March 14th on UKTV.

Is this a one off showing? i missed it and cant find it replayed anywere!!! please help
I actually watched this in the UK late last year, and it was followed by a showing of the very first episode of Coronation St, it was so interesting, it’s a pity UKTV didn’t do the same. I agree with Barrie that Jessie Wallace was excellent in the role of Elsie.
I nam so sorryn you have taken all th old ones out that was coronation st will notn be the same
Characters, acting and storylines that put the local dross to shame. Thank God for Foxtel.
Coronation Street One of my secret indulges…:)
This is a 75min BBC dramatisation of Tony Warren’s struggle to get Coronation St to air in 1960. It features the characters of Ken Barlow, Annie Walker, Ena Sharples 1 & 2, Elsie Tannner as well as the Granada TV executives. All of the actors playing the parts are good, but Jessie Wallace as Elsie Tanner/Pat Phoenix is outstanding, and is a million miles removed from her Kat Moon character that she plays in Eastenders. I enjoyed it but it leaves you wanting more…so I had to buy the Coronation St 1960’s box set.
