Axed?: In Treatment

Updated: HBO has axed In Treatment, starring Gabriel Byrne -or have they?

HBO has axed In Treatment, starring Gabriel Byrne as a psychiatrist who treats patients in his home office.

The drama, based on an Israeli series, completed its third season last year.

The show was critically acclaimed, winning a Golden Globe for Byrne, and praise for its guest actors, including Australians Melissa George and Mia Wasikowska.

Others who appeared included Debra Winger, Blair Underwood and, in a regular role, Dianne Wiest.

It aired in Australia on Showcase.

Updated: Since early reports emerged there is now speculation the show may morph into another form. In a statement, the network said: “It’s true that we have no plans to continue with ‘In Treatment’ as previously formatted. However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories.”

  1. The five nights a week concept was excellent, but I bought Season 1 on DVD (as I don’t have ShowCase) and found it was a tough slog to get through such long series. I got about half way and gave up… despite how excellent it was…

A new format, more manageable format, would be much better, I agree…

  2. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show has not been axed but is rather being retooled from its current five episode a week format to something that works better within HBO’s other programming.

  3. Oh no!
I love that show, and was looking forward to more.
Sad to see a show that’s different as well as being so good being axed when there’s so much rubbish around.
At least we got 3 seasons, so just have to be satisfied with that.
