Between the Lines gets the go for Eddie

Eddie McGuire's next project, sports quiz show Between the Lines, will air on Nine later this year.

Eddie McGuire’s next project, sports quiz show Between the Lines, will air on Nine later this year.

The Southern Star-produced panel series will include Mick Molloy, who appears with McGuire on MMM breakfast in Melbourne.

“It’s been knocking around for a while,” McGuire told Mediaweek.

“One of the things I’ve noticed about sport is it dominates so many lives but we’re forgetting these days the funny stories and the fun of sport.

“These days everyone wants to chase Ricky Nixon and Brendan Fevola around or the Rugby League boys whenever there’s a muck up. You can address that but get people who will give it a bit of light and shade rather than beating the stories to death.

“There’s still a lot of fun that goes unreported. Good funny stories, hilarious situations right throughout world sport that you don’t get to anymore.”

McGuire said more people should be producing shows with fun as the key factor rather than getting bogged down in demographics.

McGuire currenly hosts Hot Seat, Million Dollar Drop and This is Your Life specials.

  1. @Johnson: The Trophy Room aired over summer, against the cricket and the tennis and non-stop coverage of the floods, hence their meagre ratings. So I don’t think Eddie would be worrying too much about that as an indicator. But I’d like to know if it has games like Trophy Room or if it is just a ‘chat’ panel show…

  2. Yet another stunningly original host choice and programming concept from those crazy risk takers at nine. Seven most be quaking in their boots at the thought of this hitting the schedules.

I have a horrible feeling that Australian tv will mirror the UK and be covered in lackluster panel shows by the end of the year.

  3. Oh yeah i’m sure all Rugby League, Rugby Union & Soccer supporters can’t wait for a president of an AFL club to start talking about sports he knows nothing about.

  4. it’s funny reading the posts from the ‘Eddie haters’. There seems to be quite a few of these haters. Ah well

I don’t mind Eddie as a host, but I do think that Nine do need to get a new fresh bunch of tv hosts. Can’t always use Eddie and the Today Show hosts to host everything

  5. Alright this is getting ridiculous. How many shows does his guy want to host? It may actually be a good thing that Hamish & Andy are joining Nine, it seems they’re in need of some new TV personalities.

  6. Eddie must have “goat photos”

This guy is massively overexposed and doesn’t rate north of the Murray. Why is 9 setting themselves up for another fail?

  7. Are they going to promote this show without using Eddies image, like they have been doing for MDD. I would think that if they are aware that a lot of people won’t watch a show that he is in by not using his image to promote it, then why bother using him at all!!!! Develop some new talent Nine! Stop being the joke of a network that you are!!!

  8. Why is Eddie MCGuire always hosting all these new shows? I find him sooooo boring and refuse to watch anything with him in it. I’m sure there are plenty of unemployed capable personalities out there who could host these programs! How about somebody younger and good looking….perhaps even a lady??

  9. Another bunch of jealous losers trying to put Eddie down.
The guy from Broadmeadows makes good and all you people do is try and put him down.

If you want to put down people and shows then try these, they are on a lot more that Eddie

Newsreaders, especially that guy on 7 who reads the sports news, he is always looking at the auto cue and Never at the camera, it’s about time he was off. I think it is Sandy Roberts.

The Useless Reporters (not the good ones)
Current Affairs shows and their hosts
Crappy actors in crappy shows like
    Neighbours
    Home and away etc

  10. Poor old Eddie Overkill.
Nine, (the Network You Love to Laugh At), just keep chucking it at the wall in the hope one of their shitty shows just might stick…
I ask you – “Between the Loons”?
