Foxtel boasts more video content than FTA

Who delivers more video content via online platforms: Foxtel or Nine?

Who delivers more video content via online platforms: Foxtel or Nine?

That was a sore point between CEOs Kim Williams and David Gyngell, speaking at The Australian and Deutsche Bank leaders forum in Sydney yesterday.

Gyngell told the crowd, “We distribute more video content than anybody else in this country through NineMSN.”

But Kim Williams disagreed.

“We deliver one gigabyte of information every second of the day, every day of the year,” he said.

My guess would be Foxtel wins this argument in terms of available video content. Having a plethora of TV shows and movies on offer it would surely eclipse Channel Nine. But NineMSN is more than just Channel Nine -and there’s a chance it may outrank Foxtel in terms of what is actually consumed via online portals (especially if it includes every NineMSN webpage and Hotmail).

It’s just as well the ABC’s Mark Scott wasn’t in the room.

  1. Off topic, that picture of Kim Williams is hillarous…. “When the light hits in the right way…. I can see right through to her knickers…”

  2. @Jim

I agree 100%. Ninemsn is the hardest website to navigate on. I hate it full stop. I never go there any more.

As for Foxtel outdoing them i agree with them. They have so much more on demand then them. But Seven does a good job too despite the poor picture quality they have episodes up there all of the time so if i missed an ep of something at least i know its there to watch whereas Nine doesn’t do it for some shows at all. They are what i like to call lazy.

I think TEN has the best service though. I can get the shows on my iPhone if i miss them. The other FTA’s don’t do that.

  3. Craig(buzz) – you’ll be eating your words when Netflix comes to Australia and you can watch it on a big screen TV with sweet sound system. Oh wait I already do that by using a US VPN. Makes the Australian offerings look like a joke.

  4. Foxtel wins this for sure. But do we care i certainly don’t.For me video content on-line is a waste of time. That’s what recording devices are used for

  5. Nine has been rumored to be bringing Hulu to Australia and our broadcasters have met Hulu to discuss such things according to a article by SMH journo Tim Dick on Friday..

And ABC has the best iPad app for viewing TV shows.

  6. NineMSN is the worst website in the world. Go to any other networks website in the country, or the world for that matter, and see how fluid, simple and easy to navigate they are compared to NineMSN. Getting around that site; its like the yellow pages with videos!

  7. @Rutzie – oh hell yes, that photo looks like a promo shot for a film about something evil 😀

Meanwhile, while Gyngell and Williams compare their respective sizes and all that, let’s just remember that pretty much anyone can serve gigabytes of video content, but if that content is worthless, it’s all moot.

  8. Difference is you have to pay for foxtel’s content! Its a Joke!!!!!!!!
TV shows should be on demand for free, With movies available for purchase!
Some of our TV network executives need to visit the US and see some of their amazing on-demand systems. iView is the only thing that kind of compares in this country except it is all ABC content. Across the Pacific content is available from all channels.
