Hungry Beast to reveal Aussie raid on Taliban

Hungry Beast will air footage from a raid on a Taliban by Aussie troops that the Department of Defence tried to suppress.

Hungry Beast will mark its season return tonight with footage from a raid on a Taliban compound in the Shah Wali Kot region of Afghanistan.

The footage, captured last October, was shot by an Australian soldier using a helmet-mounted camera.

The operation was a major success for Australian troops, but Hungry Beast will illustrate that the Department of Defence held back the footage even after it was cleared of operational security concerns and submitted for public release by local commanders and ADF Headquarters for Middle East Area of Operations.

“There is a growing sense of frustration among members of the ADF at the way information, images and footage relating to operations in Afghanistan are routinely delayed or withheld from public release by the Minister’s office,” says reporter Kirsten Drysdale.

The footage is part of a Hungry Beast episode on ‘Secrets.’

Interestingly, ABC News will also air some of the footage tonight.

Hungry Beast airs 9:30pm tonight on ABC1.

  1. Channel 2 news last night did shameless self promoting of the story as their number 1 story. With Mediwatch thats like calling the kettle balck when they give the other networks are hard time with it!

  2. I am curious to know what type of show is the Hungry Beast. Is it suppose to be a comedy/satire show or serious journalism? If I want to watch comedy, I’d want comedy, If I want serious journalism, I would watch Four Corners. I want to watch a comedy show to be entertained and laugh. If I want debates and discussions of the news of the day, I want that another time.
