Iron Chef Australia off the menu?

There is more speculation today about the future -or otherwise- of Iron Chef Australia.

There is more speculation today about the future -or otherwise- of Iron Chef Australia on Seven.

Previous cook-off contender Guillaume Brahimi of Sydney’s Guillaume at Bennelong says he hasn’t been approached to re-appear.

“I didn’t really see the point of it from my perspective because, as a chef on the show, it’s a no-win situation,” he said.

“As a professional I am expected to win the challenges, but if I’m beaten by a challenger then he is the hero. So either way, I lose.”

A spokesperson told the newspaper a decision was yet to be made on the Shine Australia series.

In January Head of Programming and Production Tim Worner told TV Tonight it was, “Not something we’ve put a line through. We’re more focussed with what’s on the front-burner.”

But given Seven still hasn’t confirmed the axing / non-renewal of City Homicide, which has its final episode next week, it could be some time before Iron Chef Australia enjoys any clarity.

  1. I agree with Jerome. They tried to make it all epic with the promos, the voiceovers, music, etc. but it really wasn’t. There were only 3 people in a tiny kitchen with a few small, ordinary dishes made. If you look at the large scale production of the Japanese version with many helpers, and consequently extravagant, bold, artistic creations, the Australian version pales in comparison.

  2. Good to hear, now to just get rid of those other 2 cooking shows. Why because on those two shows you have hosts that can’t host it’s terrible to watch.10 years ago shows like this wouldn’t continue because of this situation, but the public today are more forgiving.Foxtel for me

  3. Formats which are taken from overseas especially in this case Japan have a tendency to fail in this market just like this. I would not want this show back at all. If i want to watch Iron Chef then i will watch the original version which is dubbed and which screens on SBS.

  4. It is a terrible show, Iron chef wins,”well what do you expect”, if he loses” won;t go to his restaurant after being beaten by an upstart”.

Oh Grant Denyer please, if it comes back, not him as host

  5. The mistake they made was promoting it like epic event tv. It should just be an easy watch show maybe it should come back after the footy season Friday 8:30. Movies don’t rate and there are over 1mil BH&G viewers that might tune in, there’s nothing else on.

  6. I doubt whether it will come back. Whilst it didn’t get disastrous ratings, I don’t think it has the suspense or element of human interest of either MasterChef or MKR. I was surprised to see the show produced for a commercial network, to be honest. It is more the sort of show that I would expect to see on Lifestyle Food. It has always been a cult programme, it was never going to be a breakout hit on a commercial network.

  7. I think its fair to say Homicide wont be back, the on air promos are referring to it as the “final city homicide” rather than a “season finale” or similar
