Logie nominations due Sunday

You'll be hearing Logie nominees in your 6pm News next Sunday. Meanwhile your host is (finally) confirmed.

TV Week has confirmed the industry rumour that Shane Bourne is the 2011 host for the 53rd Logie Awards on Sunday, May 1 at Crown.

“I am genuinely thrilled to be involved in TV’s night of nights,” said Bourne.

“It’s an honour to be following in the footsteps of such television luminaries as Bert Newton et al – and the timing couldn’t be better. I’ve always enjoyed myself immensely at the Logies, and since the chances of a nomination coming my way this year look pretty slim, I figure it’s not a bad way of making sure I score an invitation.”

Bourne as host was rumoured in Sunday newspapers some weeks ago.

All the nominees will be revealed on Sunday afternoon at The Green Room at Quay, Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks, Sydney. It is the first time the nominees have been announced the day before the magazine goes on sale. They have been timed to be included in the 6pm evening news (although Twitter and social media may get them out faster).

TV Week editor Emma Nolan said, “We have seen a 350% increase in voting numbers, with surprising results,” she says. “The gap between some nominees is very close, and we can’t wait to reveal the full list in the issue of TV Week on sale April 4.”

Voting for the Gold will continue up to the big night.

  1. Isn’t it time that we re-vamp the logies? Let’s face it. It’s an ugly statue and it looks cheap. Look on the door of any restrooms and you’ll see the same design. ‘toilet man’. It’s hardly suprising that the Logies are mocked year after year. With all due repect to John ‘Logie’ Baird whom the Logies are named after, I suggest renaming them the “Australian Television Awards’. Couple that with a breathtakingly stunning statuette or award that screams prestige and respect and you’ve got yourself a winner.

  2. Oh, come now, AA – Logies telecasts are always fun and a most rewarding night for the Australian entertainment industry.
Do what I do every year.
Record the 3-4 hour telecast on the hard drive, and then, about 9 months later, decide I really didn’t want to watch it anyway, and d-e-l-e-t-e it…

  3. I honestly believe that the Logies are irrelevant. The awards show is lame by international standards. The logo is bad the name is bad (yes i understand that its named after John Logie Beard) The categories are pathetic. One of the categories which is pathetic is the light entertainment category, its pathetic because they just cram everything remaining in there including shows which should have their own genre ie. music shows.

  4. @Anthony Mai, i’d say ur in for a disapointment.

i just hope shane has improved his fake laugh since TGYH. i cant think of many realistic people that would be an alternative so i guess this is not a bad choice.
