Million Dollar scheduling: Stop the Drop

Nine's erratic tinkering with its newest game show isn't good for anybody, as another change takes effect.

Another change from Nine Entertainment Scheduling Inc. sees Million Dollar Drop dropped from this Thursday night in Melbourne.

But a new episode will still play at 8:30pm in Sydney and Brisbane.

Melbourne will now get a new CSI episode.

Next Thursday all three cities will see MDD on Monday and Thursday (more changes notwithstanding).

This will mean CSI episodes will now differ in some cities.

At this stage CSI returns to Sydney and Brisbane on April 7th.

Other cities: TBA.

Nine’s scheduling certainly feels like a dartboard of changes and not an ideal way to launch a new show. Thursday may be affected by sport in various cities, and perhaps MDD was doomed against an AFL opener in Melbourne.

But wasn’t it a Monday night show to begin with?

  1. 24/3 – the final question re the m&m’s the answer was wrong. The question asked if blue or yellow was most prominent in original packet of m&ms. Since Blue was not introduced until 1995, I can’t understand how the contestants could be incorrect in choosing yellow

  2. Seriously bad show, Surely someone is going to start showing some direction at channel 9 !

Just returned to Oz after 10 years in Europe, and am so disappointed in what used to be my favorite station

Eddy McGuire , he should be taken off screen permanently , not sure what he has got over who, as any other individual of similar presentation / style wouldn’t last a week !

The show will go, no doubt , it’s a joke, like the network as a whole. It’s a shame, hero to zero in a decade

  3. I thought melbourne was the only place who still liked eddie.

If he’s not even working there why is he still on tv?

How many dud show strikes has he chalked up now?

  4. its was just painfull watching this show on monday too slow too boring no entertainment here 8 question in a hour??? too much dribble too much not happening

  5. Why don’t they just repeat the premiere of MDD if they are gonna get smashed anyway in Melbourne? This will change 6 times before 8.30 Thursday anyway.

  6. Did they really not know that they would be up against the AFL season opener or did they just not think that it would be an issue? Is all programming done from Sydney, ‘cos that would go some way to explaining that?

Something is very wrong in Nine’s programming dept. Seven must be clapping their hands with glee.

I think you’re onto something there. There’s two people, the contestant and the winner. The contestant’s job is to convince the winner that they’ve won $500,000 if they get to the Nine studios in the next (30 minutes). If the person turns up, they both walk away with $500,000.

Edit it down and it could replace the sport report on the evening news.

  8. This is another in long line of strange programming decisions from Nine this year.

Monday night at 8:30pm has already been home to Underbelly, This If Your Life and now The Drop – and it’s only March. It’s only going to cause confusion and breed contempt.

I still don’t understand why Nine didn’t split up the Underbelly telemovies over the year to increase their impact rather than getting rid of them quicker than you can say ‘hey, when is that Underbelly movie on?’ Now, they’re messing around with The Million Dollar Drop – seriously, what game are they playing? Short term – they may get a small ratings burst, but long term people are just going to give up.

  9. Well they’re still showing the ad for a Thursday 8.30pm airing in Melbourne – just saw the ad live now on GO. Or is GO broadcast nationally and they really need to be more careful with the ads they show at a state level?

  10. How does Nine make programming decision… someone pick a piece of paper out of a hat? So many changes… how about pleasing sport fans and scraping any plans for CSI or MDD for this week… you listened about Survivor (eventually) and paid off last night… how about pleasing viewers rathing than annoying them further for a change?

  11. I say again this show will be gone in a few weeks!

Seriously who is running things at Nine where they think people/shows in other states are not going to talk about it in VIC?

    Million Dollar Flop!

Why don’t they just randomly call some one out of the phone book and give them a million dollars?

  12. This is hilarious. Imagine the scrambling in the programming department. Did they only find out yesterday that the football season opener was on Thursday?
What a pack of inept clueless clowns.

  13. Since Nine Melbourne is now done from sydney and just relayed into melbourne.

The main people this affects is the workers in master control sydney. Imagine having to program 2-3 different csi episodes to broadcast at the same time for different capital cities!

    Also it affects business travellers

  14. If Nine know that they are doomed in Melbourne (which they will be considering that it is the AFL opener on Ten and One HD), why waste a new episode of CSI in that slot?

Surely putting an episode of MDD is cheaper than a episode of CSI?
