NSW Election: ABC

Both ABC1 NSW and ABC News 24 will cover the big night but 200 guests are also needed for a "live tally room" broadcast.

ABC will cover the NSW State Election on ABC1 (NSW), ABC News 24, plus radio, mobile and online.

And with no official tally room, the ABC is creating its own ABC Election Centre from the ABC Ultimo studios in front of an invite-only audience.

Here is your opportunity to be one of only 200 guests invited to witness the live rolling coverage and be part of the broadcasts. As well as being able to view the broadcasts, there will be big screens to view the results as the numbers come in and full analysis from our ABC election experts.

Plus, you will receive an exclusive ‘election night briefing’ with Quentin Dempster and ABC Election Analyst Antony Green, prior to the broadcast.

To score an invitation for you and a friend, compose, in 70 characters or less, a snappy (and obviously fictitious) election result headline. Let the puns be plentiful because the entries judged most creative will receive the invitation-only double passes. Also, on the night there will be a prize for the ultimate winning headline!

To enter and for more information go to the 702 ABC Sydney website here.

Here are details of the television coverage:

ABC1 (NSW):

ABC TV’s full NSW election coverage begins at 6.30pm live from the ABC studios in Ultimo, with host Kerry O’Brien, joined by Quentin Dempster, ABC Election Analyst Antony Green and panellists ALP MLC Luke Foley and Liberal MP Gladys Berejiklian. During the broadcast they will be crossing to NSW State Political reporter Matt Wordsworth for guest interviews at the ABC Election Centre.

The panel will provide continuous coverage of the count and the most accurate and expert analysis, with the ABC’s election computer system ready to call the results as early as possible. With the sophisticated predictive technology and clear and comprehensive graphics the broadcast will be the only continuous live coverage of the NSW Election results.

A special ABC NSW TV news bulletin will be on at 6pm on ABC1 and the election broadcast will include a five minute news bulletin at 7pm.

The following day join Barrie Cassidy on Insiders with the wash-up of the election results.

ABC News 24 (National):

For those viewers outside NSW, wherever you are in Australia, ABC News 24 will be simulcasting the ABC1 election coverage from 6.30pm (AEDT).

  1. THe NSW labor pary is going to the crapper they will be thrashed in the upcoming state election no doubt about it. The only question is how big will the margin be.

  2. Looks like Antony Green got his way this year buy having the election computers hooked up to the studio system, away from those unreliable Wi-Fi ‘tally room’ connections. I remember his entertaining rant last federal election saying ‘tally room’ set-ups were basically for show & nothing practical. I’m just wondering how they’ll recreate the election night party atmosphere at Ultimo HQ without the crowds in the background? Yes, I like a bit of show with my election nights! 😉

As an interstate viewer, I’ll be watching through News24.
