Ovation subscribers want refunds

Since vanishing from Foxtel, mystified Ovation viewers have been bombarding the Pay TV channel to ask about Refunds.

Arts-lovers who subscribe to the Ovation channel have been left mystified as to the future of their favourite musicals and documentaries since the channel vanished from the Foxtel platform.

Earlier this month the channel disappeared from Foxtel after it was unable to maintain a minimum number of subscribers needed to meet broadcasting costs.

Many subscribers, a large number of whom are elderly viewers, have been leaving unreturned messages on Ovation’s automated phone system to ask about refunds on pre-paid 12 month subscriptions.

Managing Director Gerry Travers told TV Tonight, “We’re looking to do a Refund Policy for our subscribers and we’ll post that on our website as soon as we’ve got that set.”

Accessible under a separate subscription fee, the channel has been going it alone ever since it was replaced by STVDIO in April 2010.

In June 2010 the channel became accessible via Foxtel through Special Access Undertaking provisions. It had to establish its own customer service booking system, and organise its own satellite transponders.

But TV Tonight understands it has been tough going swimming against the tide in a crowded Pay TV market, while trying to meet the minimum requirements to remain on Foxtel.

Travers confirmed Austar and Optus subscribers will continue to receive the channel.

  1. My 87 yr old Mother subscribed two days before Foxtel pulled the pin, and thankfully went for the pay-by-the-month option rather than long term.

The content does nothing for me, however she’s disappointed.

  2. I was a bit surprised they were offering this in the first place.I felt it was never going to work and didn’t.Foxtel should have stuck to there original decision and have it permanently gone

  3. Crap channel, crap content. No wonder it failed. Stvdio is a much better channel! Great programs. Foxtel has done well by replacing Ovation.

  4. @DansDans I think they meant “minimum” subscriber level in the sense that it was the number of paying subscribers required to break even on the license fees.

  5. Cool!!!!! im so glad i’ve got Optus TV featuring Foxtel. this channel is the best! and also thats why i love Optus they keep everything, nothing ever happens to them. GO! Optus and Thank You!!!
