Outgoing Premier Media CEO, David Malone, was this morning presented with the ASTRA Pioneer Award, at the ASTRA Conference in Sydney.

The award recognises his contribution to the Subscription TV industry, particularly in guiding Premier Media Group’s shift from a single sports channel into a broadcast business which includes FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2, FOX Sports 3, FOX Sports 1HD, FOX Sports 2HD, FOX Sports 3HD, FOX Sports News, FUEL TV and SPEED.

“This is a great honour and I am extremely grateful to ASTRA and everyone in the industry for this award. I’d like to acknowledge the terrific team at FOX Sports who work with me daily to make FOX Sports synonymous with the best sports broadcasts on Australian television,” he said.

During his 11 years at Premier Media Group, the organisation has increased live coverage of sports from 3,700 hours to 8,500 hours a year, turning over $450 million in 2011.

Malone will exit Premier Media mid year to pursue other opportunities with News Corp in London and New York.

The ASTRA Pioneer Award was established in 2010 with the first recipient being Showtime’s Executive Producer Kim Vecera.
