Warburton affidavit contains “explosive” Leckie claims

An affadvit by James Warburton is expected to make explosive claims about Seven CEO David Leckie's management style.

Former Channel Seven executive James Warburton has prepared a 30 page affidavit as part of his Supreme Court defence in the battle with his former employee.

According to the Sunday Telegraph Warburton is expected to make explosive claims about Seven CEO David Leckie’s management style, described as “erratic behaviour”.

Seven is seeking to enforce post-employment restraints in its contract with Warburton, which would prevent him from starting as TEN CEO in July.

But because there is a court case pending, neither Seven nor TEN will go on the record to media about the specifics of the case.

The case is likely to blow open all sorts of conversations about the inner workings of television, especially within Seven, in a way that hasn’t been seen since Mark Llewellyn’ affidavit in a case against the Nine Network. Rightly or wrongly, Eddie McGuire is still living down that “boning” phrase.

Leckie, who infamously called Cougar Town a “shit show,” is likely to emerge as even more colourful.

The case between Warburton, Seven and TEN begins on April 4.

  1. David Leckie does not know what the people want. How did he even get the job at 7 is beyond me. All of this is off 7s making. 7 probably did have a succession plan but David wouldnt budge so now James is dishing the dirt i wonder if this will have any impact on the upcoming AFL Tv Rights Negotiations which should be resolved this week. Hopefully this week anyway.
