20 to 1: TV Neighbours

I didn't catch last night's new episode of 20 to 1 but Nine have been good enough to send through the list of "TV Neighbours."

I didn’t catch last night’s new episode of 20 to 1 but Nine have been good enough to send through the list of “TV Neighbours” for our perusal.

There are some great names on this list….

20: Ugly Naked Guy (Friends)
19: Barney Rubble (The Flinstones)
18: Rose (Two and a Half Men)
17: Lenny and Squiggy (Laverne and Shirley)
16: Marcy D’Arcy (Married With Children)
15: Bob and Midge (That 70’s Show)
14: Margo Leadbetter (The Good Life)
13: Kimmy Gibbler (Full House)
12: Edie Britt (Desperate Housewives)
11: Dorrie Evans (Number 96)
10: “The wicked and unhinged tenants” (Melrose Place)
9: Hyacinth Bucket (Keeping Up Appearances)
8: Fred and Ethel Mertz (I Love Lucy)
7: Frank and Marie Barone (Everybody Loves Raymond)
6: Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld)
5: Steve Urkel (Family Matters)
4: Ned Flanders (The Simpsons)
3: Wilson (Home Improvement)
2: Vivean Gray playing Mrs Mangel (Neighbours) and Mrs Jessup (The Sullivans)
1: Gladys Kravitz (Bewitched)

Good to see Kramer, Dorrie Evans, Ned Flanders, Vivean Gray (in 2 roles no less), Ethel & Fred Mertz and Gladys Kravitz (NB: there were two actresses in this role).

Not sure I agree with Hyacinth Bucket given she was the central character in Keeping Up Apearances. It kinda rules her out given she had her own neighbour in Elizabeth. But on the whole it’s not a bad list.

So who did they leave out, guys?

  1. George and Mildred Roper in Man About the House. They ended up with their own spin-off show, as did The Jefferson’s (neighbours of Archie Bunker in All in the Family).

  2. What about Fonzie? He lived over the Cunningham’s garage for a while – close enough to a neighbour surely (just as correct as Mrs Bucket anyway)

  3. Great to see Dorrie Evans on that list, I’d have loved her as a neighbour. And for an obscure (mostly silent) neighbour, how about ‘Mandy’ from next door to Kath & Kim… She should never have dobbed them in for abusing water restrictions for the hot tub

  4. i dont think we ever saw the brady bunch’s neighbours (the dittmeyers) in the series but we saw them in the movie. so my vote is for the dittmeyers

  5. @Bogues – I agree the Ochmonek’s should definitely have been included.

Also, I don’t believ Kimmy Gibbler and Steve Urkel were actually neighbours…were they? They were friends of the family that just happened to pop in often, I thought…

  6. Pretty bad that Wilson wasn’t Number 1. The theme was “Funniest Neighbors, so how Vivean Gray got two is beyond me.

Agree with you David on Hyacinth.

    My Top 5:

    1: Wilson (Home Improvement)
2: Frank and Marie Barone (Everybody Loves Raymond)
    3: Steve Urkel (Family Matters)
    4: Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld)
5: Fred and Ethel Mertz (I Love Lucy)

Why the hell Melrose Place? That’s not funny!

  7. thanks for this list david- a watched a bit but ran out of steam- great to see Gladys Kravits in first place – brilliant – certainly Alice Pearce the first galdys is a gem….i would have had fred and ethel a bit higher and Margo on the good life was an absolute classic…
