First it was Pia Toscano.

Now Casey Abrams has been eliminated from American Idol. What’s going on?

Sure he didn’t have pop idol looks, but the bearded Abrams has been a shining star with his performances on Idol, reinventing songs and playing instruments including an upright bass.

The judges have been left speechless by his jazz-influenced songs. It was the second time he had faced an exit, having already been saved by the judges in their sole “save” vote they could exercise once in the season. This time he wasn’t so lucky.

It’s all up to you now Jacob Lusk….

  1. Well, shows how much we all know – James is gone 🙁

    Can’t say I really care which way they go now. Haley is my favourite now but I’m pretty confident it will be Scotty and Lauren in the final (but then i was confident James would be in the final, too…) so who knows….

  2. It’s a blog as the header indicates and I am writing about television news. In fact as the About page indicates it is also a Personal blog, meaning I am writing about what resonates with me as a passionate viewer of television.

    As a courtesy I hold off Spoilers for my readers until they have aired (that’s also in the About page). A Spoiler = writing about something before it has aired. It does not mean waiting until every single viewer has watched something on their PVR a week later.

    I am still wondering what day and date you would find it acceptable to write the story?

  3. I had not seen it yet. Sorry that I don’t watch everything the second it airs on TV. Sorry I have other things to do. <– (Aimed at the douche calling me an idiot) And I won't be back on this site while you post spoilers. It was only the day after and some people have lives on Friday night and aren't at home to watch it.

    Why post spoilers anyway? I know this is a TV news/blog site, but in the time I have followed the Pay TV section, I have seen very very few spoilers. One for Jacob Lusk earlier in Idol and the Next Top Model debacle (Could be others but I don't recall them). NTM I can understand because that was a big deal, but I wouldn't think an Idol departure would be enough to warrant a post.

    Plus, you didn't post when Pia was voted out and that was a way bigger deal than Casey. I am guessing Jacob and Casey are personal favorites of yours? If that's the case, then this is a blog and not a news site because Pia was much bigger news. Yes, the header says a Blog, but you called it a TV news site.

    You expect spoilers on blogs, not news sites. I guess that is the distinction and needs to be observed for those that wish to not have results spoiled.

  4. I was so sad to see Casey go, he was brilliant. His ‘Nature Boy’ was superlative. I am now waiting to see him appear on disks and become a worldwide jazz singing star. Despite his different look, what a sexy man with a sexy voice. J-Lo was so obviously smitten.

  7. I’m glad he’s gone, Casey loved himself a little too much. They should get rid of “the save” – I really think it cost Pia the American Idol crown, and inspired the audience to save Casey a few weeks longer than his use by date. Prediction: James or Lauren to win, probably James.

  8. I really hope Scotty goes soon. His voice is a one-trick pony…can he sing with as much range and vocal extravagance as any of the other singers? Absolutely not!!

    Because of his stupid teenage girls he’ll stick around. Well anyway, I’ve been thinking Haley was going every week because of her lack of fan base, even though she is one of the better singers. She’ll probably go next week, or Jacob. The final 3 will probably be James, Lauren and Scotty. I just hope James wins. Lauren winning won’t be too bad either. In fact, anyone winning except for Scotty, I’ll live. But I want him to go next, not Haley/Jacob!!

  10. Honestly, I can’t stand Jacob any more. I don’t like his attitude and his voice grates on me – it always sounds like he’s about to break down and cry.

    Agree that James is the frontrunner, with either Lauren or Scotty as the other finalist.

    I actually really like Haley’s voice – but she’s got a bit of an attitude about her too, and the audience won’t tolerate it much longer.

  11. It’s not all about Jacob anymore David. He does have an incredible voice but he hasn’t really nailed it every week. James is leading, in my opinion. I agree with the comments made by daveinprogress. Anyway, it’s such a talented bunch this year it’s hard to see anyone go!

  13. I loved Casey, but I think he took it as far as he could go. He was never going to win a show like this (or, if he did, would disappear like Taylor Hicks did).
    I want James to win (he’s the only one who in genuinely improving every week), but wouldn’t be disappointed if Lauren/Haley did.

  14. Despite my hopes, and those of VFTW, Casey was never going to win. Not with his kooky style and his jazz leanings, where his tendency towards minor keys made him sound out of tune to those ears accustomed to pop music. He was certainly entertaining and his exit song was the funniest and best thing I’ve seen on Idol in yonks! All that random kissing of girls in the audience (even Steven Tyler got a smooch) and then his final line of the song to his supposed girlfriend Hayley was hilarious.

    I am thinking James will win since he’s the non-gay version of Adam Lambert and the votes from the rest of the soon-to-be-eliminated contestants (country girl Lauren excluded) will go to him. Let’s hope Alfred E. Neuman doesn’t win ….

  16. This elimation had me shattered! But its the top 6 and the one I really don’t like (Hayley) was the first to be saved so I can only take it that its only me that doesn’t like her style of singing. From here on it is going to be shattering elimations as they are all sooo good this year and so different from previous seasons – with country Scotty, country/pop Lauren, metal/rock James, gospel Jacob and ‘different’ Hayley. Hopefully Casey will get a record contract anyway because I will be in-like to by his CD!

  17. If I interpret your last line correctly, David, I assume you prefer Jacob to be eliminated next? Or am I simply projecting my view onto yours? Haley and Jacob need to go, in my view. Scotty and James for the final 2, Lauren a close 3rd. James the far and away winner for this season. He is the Adam Lambert of this year. Brilliant, talented and seemingly a good guy. I concede that Jacob has a fine voice, but it’s all too over the top. It has been a very strong field this year.

    And this is “american idol” – the search for america’s next idol.

    not the search for america’s most gifted muscian (not that he would win that either)
