Defamation case against Molloy begins

Comments made by Mick Molloy during a 2008 episode of Before the Game have now led to a Defamation case in Adelaide.

A defamation case between former South Australian Labor candidate Nicole Cornes and Mick Molloy has begun in Adelaide.

Cornes, who is married to footballing identity Graham Cornes, is suing Molloy and Network TEN following comments made on Before the Game in June 2008 which insinuated she slept with a former Port Adelaide player.

She denies the allegation.

“When I watched it, I was really upset,” Cornes told the Supreme Court today.

“It’s very, very humiliating.”

The Australian reports that (former Media Watch host) Stuart Littlemore QC, acting for Ms Cornes, said his client was treated as a dirty joke and subjected to sexual ridicule.

Following the episode, Molloy later read an on-air apology. Lawyers for TEN have since said the case rests on whether comments were meant to be taken literally or in jest.

The case continues.
