Jerry Seinfeld calls the Royal Wedding “a circus act”

Jerry Seinfeld says the Royal Family is a huge game of pretend because the Brits love to dress up wth a sense of theatre.

And what’s the deal with the Royal Wedding, eh Jerry?

Jerry Seinfeld called the Royal Wedding a circus act when he was interviewed in New York for ITV’s Daybreak when promoting his upcoming performance at London’s O2 Arena.

Asked is he was excited about the wedding he replied sarcastically, “Yes, I’m very excited. Well it’s a circus act, it’s an absurd act.

“You know, it’s a dress-up. It’s a classic English thing of let’s play dress-up. Let’s pretend that these are special people. OK, we’ll all pretend that – that’s what theatre is,’ he continued.

“That’s why the British have the greatest theatre in the world. They love to dress up and they love to play pretend.

“And that’s what the Royal Family is – it’s a huge game of pretend. These aren’t special people – it’s fake outfits, fake phoney hats and gowns.

“It’s fantastic. We don’t have anything like that.”

Well, except an entire town named Hollywood, perhaps…

How well his comments will go down remains to be seen.

Daybreak hosts Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles appeared taken aback, Bleakley joking, “How dare he!”

Chiles appeared very offended by Seinfeld‘s opinion: “I’ll join in on any of that stuff, if it’s a Brit doing it. But I can’t bear Americans criticising the Royal family. It turns me into a Royalist!”

“He’ll be doing that show from the Tower of London, never mind the O2.”

Yada, yada, yada….

  1. I agree with Jerry. What makes them so special? They’re descended from a family rife with inbreeding and elitist classism. Though on reflection aren’t the actor/ess’s of USA the American equivalent, except the inbred bit.

  2. Jerry, Jerry… If you were a direct descendant of King Solomon, still you have no chance to be invited to Buckingham Palace. Not even as a waiter. By the way, I do not remember to see at least one afro-american actor in your boring tv-serial. Why?

  3. Maybe we should ask Jerry about the people he finds special and then superimpose his comments about the Royals on them. Easy to say when you’re just not into something. His comments are funny but hardly clever…whooo dress up – that’s a stinger!?

  4. “These aren’t special people”

That would pretty much sum up all of Hollywood. Jerry Seinfeld another Hollywood has been jealous of people much more “better” than him.

  5. Stan: I’m sure if he’d been hired by the Royal Family as MC for the wedding reception he’d change his tune. Money talks. Far fetched I know, but so was his sitcom.

FYI I don’t care for the upcoming proceedings, however just like when Oprah came to Oz the flow on effect does appear to bring some good.
