Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Vice President comedy

Julia Louis-Dreyfus gets a new series as a former Senator who becomes Vice President, only to discover the job is nothing like she expected.

Thankyou Sarah Palin?

HBO has announced a new comedy for Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine, Seinfeld).

Called Veep, Louis-Dreyfus will play former Senator Selina Meyer, who becomes Vice President, only to discover the job is nothing like she expected.

Created by Armando Iannucci (In the Loop), Veep will also include Sufe Bradshaw as the Vice President’s assistant, Anna Chlumsky as her chief of staff, and Tony Hale as her right-hand man.

Louis-Dreyfus said, “It is a true delight to work with HBO and Armando Iannucci. I take the role of vice president very seriously, and although everyone says this is a comedy, I don’t think there is anything funny at all about me being a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

The series will debut in 2012.

  1. So excited!!!

I am one of the apparently very few who absolutely loved ‘The New Adventures Of Old Christine’ …… thank god for amazon usa which has enabled me to order, own and see almost the entire series so far. Very underrated sitcom in my humble opinion.

Granted, her sitcom vehicle between ‘Seinfeld’ and ‘Old Christine’ was terrible and sadly unfunny. That show ‘Watching Ellie’ will hopefully be the only blip in her amazing resume and ‘Veep’ (despite the dreadful title – #*& My Dad Says anyone), will be another winner.

Curious though, I had hear that the gorgeous Reid Smith was gonna be in ‘Veep’. Is he no longer involved?

Anyone looking to check out another Seinfeld alum in an equally hilarious, but unsuccesful post ‘Seinfeld’ sitcom should check out Jason Alexander in ‘Bob Patterson’. That one was hilarious also, much funnier than his next attempt ‘Listen Up’.

  2. Hmm, will prob pass. She was the weakest of the four main actors on Seinfeld, and I haven’t liked anything she’s done since. Still, HBO…

  3. Love Julia and I will be looking forward to seeing this, Anna Chlumsky I thought I know that name and yes it is Vada from My Girl and now I feel very old.
