Karl prefers 60 Minutes gig over ACA

Will Karl Stefanovic wind up at 60 Minutes, A Current Affair or Nine's newest News programme?

It seems inevitable that Karl Stefanovic will wind up with a primetime show at some point, but it’s just a question of when.

Tomorrow night he appears on both A Current Affair and 60 Minutes, but if he had his way he would take the latter, which allows him to sink his teeth into a story, instead of the ACA host chair which is mostly introducing stories.

Today he tells news.com.au, “I was asked to front a Sunday show and I have been [fronting one] but I’m not going to do it permanently and I’ve explained to the bosses why.

“It’s not what I want. The format is not quite right for what I want.”

But wait there’s more….

TV Tonight hears Nine is also filming a pilot for a brand new News program within the next two weeks.

The show will also have a studio audience.

  1. I had the link below sent to me as an email, and wondered if 60 minutes is interested in following it up to see if there is any truth in it, and if so, whether it is worth pursuing as an item to o be taken up and presernted by 60, minutes.
It is reference to the toxic devastastion being caused to farmers in China, in order to produce certain component parts to operate the wind chargers being installed in Auatralia. While Australia may be trying to benefit from “environment friendly energy” it is at a huge cost to people in China particularly.

  2. I’m with you Stevo, No Karl is good Karl. Give me a story teller and not someone with peroxide teeth and bad jokes. I’m totally over the ‘personality’ aspect in reporting. Take ‘Australian Story’ on the ABC for example. Who’s the reporter? Check the credits. They’re background to the story. Yet the story, frequently, is the highlight of the 30 minutes. The reporter is like a referee in a footy match. The less the ref’s talked about….the better the game. Channels take note. Let the viewers make stars out of your personalities. Don’t force feed us their ‘celebrity’ status.

  3. My first exposure to the current Insight format (which is not far from Q&A) was on Nine specials. So it can’t be said that they haven’t done that sort of thing before.

  4. Well looks like we will never get rid of Karl, cant stand him with that cheeky childish grin on his mug all the time.Sounds interesting this pilot for the news program,Maybe something like sevens Sunday Night,OMG as if they would copy another network ! Maybe if ACA Sunday doesnt rate well enough, nine might put this new program up against Sunday Night.
