Paper Giants was the week’s best cover story

ABC's move to screen Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo in non-ratings paid off, becoming the most talked about show of the week.

ABC’s move to screen Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo in non-ratings paid off for the broadcaster, landing two places in the week’s Top 10 shows.

The drama starring Asher Keddie and Rob Carlton was the most talked about show of the week, with broad critical acclaim and elevating Ita Buttrose’s star ahead of her appearances this week in Royal Wedding coverage.

But it was Seven that again won the week, even without My Kitchen Rules. Nine and TEN held back some of their best content, but this week Nine unveils some new shows ahead of the ratings race.

  1. I for one have no interest at all in the slightest in Paper Giants or “Madam” Ita Buttrose. I would much rather an Australian drama with a struggling underdog that made it against all odds rather than a posh lisping madam that was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Go away Ms or is that Mrs (not sure how many times you’ve divorced) or is that “madam” Buttrose and give us someone who’s really made it against all odds.

  2. Just a question and it may be stupid – but what is the point of non-ratings period? Ratings are still calculated, shows are still advertised like crazy, do they just not count at the end of the year when networks put together their lists of highest rating shows for 2011? Ive never been able to understand the point of non ratings periods.

  3. Good going ABC with Paper Giants, no wonder Nine wants a piece of that! And unrelated am I reading it right but Top Gear didn’t even make the top 100? Yes I know it’s a re-run but seriously with 401k the base you’d thing TG should be on the list even in re-runs.

  4. I agree with Earthquake about what One is probably aiming for. I imagine Ten said 2.5 incase they can’t get to those levels.

David does the 2.0 rating for One have anything to do with the F1GP airing in Primetime?

  5. David, 2.5 for One HD would still have it coming last out of the commercial multi-channels. With some better content it should surely should aspire to rate higher than Gem (3.2) and something closer to 7Mate (3.5).

  6. The thing that amazes me about Paper Giants is that it increased it’s audience on Monday. I’m wondering how much of that was due to the buzz created after the first episode. Hope tonights replay on ABC2 does well for them too.

Also interering to see One’s share is at 2.0% before their line up changes.
