Seven seals killer start to the year

Another clean sweep in Week 16 wraps a stunning start to the year for Seven, winning 10/10 weeks.

The Seven Network has finished the first 10 weeks of ratings with another clean sweep and thumping the competition.

As we now begin two weeks of Easter non-ratings, Seven’s survey year has left Nine and TEN in its wake, with a clear lead in Total People, Demos and 10 out of 10 weeks won.

Underpinning its schedule this year has been a solid performance by My Kitchen Rules, extended to 3 nights a week and finishing with 2.02m viewers -the only show this year to pass the 2 million mark. In Week 16 Seven’s coding of the show cleverly ensured it hogged 9 of the week’s Top 10.

Best for Nine was Sunday’s Nine News (1.38m) and NCIS for TEN (1.17m). ABC’s season final of Midsomer Murders impressed with 1.21m viewers.

  1. @tmorgan96 – Nine did rebrand themselves. Remember, they’re the Home of Laughter? Obviously only of the ironic and self-deprecating type.

They’re not in “rebuilding mode” at all. If anything, they’ve actually gotten a little worse this last month and have descended into farce. They’re running around like headless chickens altho’ that’s prob an insult to directionless poultry which are at least edible. Hardly anything of the insubstantial fare that Nine have served up these last few months is worth investing time in. The few tasty morsels that they have had never seem to last very long and I have to find out from sites like this where they have gone and if they’re coming back.

  2. Nine is in rebuilding mode. They’ve lost eveything they once had when they were ‘Still the One.’ Much the same as NBC in the States, who are now 5th in ratings. All it will take is one or two hits to revive it.
Maybe Nine should rebrand themselves, give themselves a fresh new look. Half the reason people don’t watch Nine is because their On-Air presentation is bland and unoriginal.

  3. Welcome to Nine and Ten’s annual first quarter nightmare. Assuming MKR performs solidly again next year, Seven will once again owns the weekly ratings from the Australian Open in late January until MKR’s conclusion in late April. Three months of major pain for the other commercial FTA’s. Agree that both Nine and Ten have failed miserably this year. The less said about Nine’s “Home of Comedy” rebranding exercise, the better. What a dismal failure that has been.

  4. Nine were on top for so long, quite inexplicably too, that in recent years, they have struggled in the wilderness of finally being beaten. They have no vision, and seem clueless and helpless to help themselves. It has been fascinating to observe.

  5. @ Trix I know what you mean – but these guys actually get paid millions of dollars! How hard can it be to get it all so wrong? Even drama this year is all recommissions – UB4, RSO3, SP5. No new ideas seem to get past first base.

  6. Deal may have the numbers but for those of us who can’t stand O’Keefe or Eddie and are too old for kids shows there has to be a decent alternative to either.

  7. @Ronnie, agree. The entire station is comatose. It seems someone in the programming department is just pressing the Big Bang Theory/Eddie McGuire/Top Gear repeat play button to keep programs going to air.

  8. How was the Hot Seat and DOND numbers determined. Deal had 2000 more viewers over the week when you add up the totals, yet it falls behind one place to Hot Seat.

  9. Nine and Ten’s start to the ratings year can be summarised in one word. Fail. Their poor performance, underpinned by a poor selection of programmes and eratic scheduling changes has allowed Seven to such a massive lead. I think we can just about call the year already.

  10. I wonder when Nine management will even notice how bad this situation is. They don’t seem to be doing anything to improve their main channel share. It almost feels like paralysis has taken over as they simply watch the trainwreck as if they are disinterested bystanders. It’s weird.
