Steven Tyler drops the “F-bomb” on Idol

Minor Spoiler: Steven Tyler was so taken by the performance of Casey Abrams on American Idol this week he let fly with the “F-bomb.”

“You’re so f***ing great” he told Abrams after his cover of Maroon 5’s “Harder to Breathe.”

Abrams has impressed every week he has appeared, despite not having the magazine looks of any traditional pop-star.

E!Online details what happened next:

While the studio audience laughed nervously at Steven’s choice of words, producer Nigel Lythgoe had his hands on his head shaking from side to side with an unmistakable look of: “OMG. I can’t believe that just happened!”

As soon as Idol cut to commercial, we were sure Steven was going to get a serious talking to, and we were so right. Well, sort of. The judges table was immediately swarmed with producers, the stage manager, friends and of course, hair and makeup, all trying to think of a quick remedy to Steven’s loose lips. As Jennifer and Randy Jackson hovered nearby, Steven and Nigel had a laugh and it didn’t seem like anyone was taking the F-bomb too seriously. Obviously they tried to make a joke of it by taping Steven’s mouth, but all in all, nobody really seemed to care.

While the word is frequently used in cable dramas, to do so live on America’s top-rating family show is another matter. Guess he achieved something Simon Cowell didn’t.

You can catch the episode tonight on FOX8.

  1. Surprised? Are you fking kidding? You don’t get a rawk legend like Steve Tyler and expect “Jolly gosh, that was splendid!”. But then anyone who makes anything by Maroon 5 sound even remotely tolerable has to be applauded.

  2. Well, yes, it’s pathetic and unprofessional, but who really cares?
David Knox permits ‘shit’ on this blog, it won’t be long before he also authorises the f-word. It’s a meaningless ejaculation these days!
